Supporting Former Service Personnel

One of our greatest strengths is the diversity of our workforce, with men and women of many nationalities and backgrounds working together and sharing common objectives.

Part of our diverse organization are the men and women who are veterans. For many years we have partnered with organizations to support former and transitioning service personnel. Most recently, we hosted a group of veterans at our Sugar Land campus for an insight day to provide general job application advice and an expert overview of the oil and gas services industry. The day included an introduction to the oil and gas industry, a resume clinic, and an interview skills class. The group also benefitted from one-on-one coaching from career experts, and learned tips on effective professional networking.

“For anyone considering a career in a high-tech industry the prospect can be intimidating. For those who are veterans, having events like this to provide support and to ease the transition to civilian working life can be invaluable,” explained Nick Tran, Manager of Veteran Programs.

The attendees were appreciative of the in depth career coaching they received on the day. “The information provided during this event has been incredibly valuable,” commented one attendee after the event. Another added, “Great resume advice, I really appreciated the individual review.”

Access to career experts was an important feature of the event for attendees.

The group also enjoyed a rig tour. Here pausing for a group shot after taking in the technology on display.

Community Outreach

In other community-related events, the Schlumberger cycling club joined former service personnel for the Independence Ride in Wallis, Texas, covering routes ranging from 12 to 63 miles. Schlumberger also sponsored the event.

The Houston Heart Walk raises funds for the American Heart Association. Schlumberger has been supporting the walk for six years. Last weekend a team of 320 employees and their families, including veterans, joined the walk raising awareness of the benefit of exercise for a healthy lifestyle.
