Business Analyst – Transportation Management Processes

Schlumberger has an opening in Houston, Texas for a Business Analyst – Transportation Management Processes. The Business Analyst for Transportation Management processes would act as a process SME for the Transportation Management related applications within Supply Chain domain at Schlumberger.

The system being used is Oracle Transportation Management system (TMS) which supports a standardized, end-to-end order process for inventory and transportation management. This involves activities like - forecasting bulk products, updating and displaying inventory on hand, creating and tracking movements, communicating with both internal and external customers, billing/invoicing, and reporting performance.

The end users supported are the global community in Schlumberger using these systems. In accordance with the business needs, he/she would utilize the knowledge of business to expedite formulation of requirements for application enhancement requests and guide the technical team for all process related queries. He / she would be able to provide functional expertise and support on ticket resolution for these applications.


The candidate may work on any of the following:

  • Provides L2 functional support for the Transportation Management cluster of applications to the business
  • Troubleshoots process/functionality related issues and resolves escalated tickets related to the TMS cluster of applications
  • Validates and details application enhancement requirements from business users and converts the same into proper requirement specifications for onward submission to development team / L3 service providers
  • Works with support teams to manage execution of change requests / application upgrades and organize deployment and transition to service operations
  • Proactively brings ideas based on his/her experience and understanding of the business users’ needs for new development and enhancements
  • Assists in business process redesign as needed
  • Communicates the solution to business directly or through other support personnel
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for the Transportation Management process
  • Application Co-ordination & Support
  • Answers, analyses and provides quality checks for incoming tickets from end users and routes them appropriately
  • Gathers and validates change requests and bug fix requirements
  • Supports governance forums to ensure tickets are resolved on time and sends reminders when needed
  • Organizes ad-hoc backlog campaigns
  • Liaises with other Business application groups in day to day operations
  • Improve quality
  • Assists in UAT testing of new application functions, releases and facilitates promotion of new features/functionalities among user community
  • Leads internal capability building activities including knowledge dissemination, training, asset creation etc.
  • Helps in creation & update of knowledge documentation specific to the processes and functional areas within the Supply Chain domain
  • Reviews metric reports and dashboards on ticketing analysis and performance

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree (MBA is preferred)
  • Certification in CPSM from Institute for Supply Management (ISM), SCPro from Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) from the Association for Operations Management (APICS)
  • 5 to 7 years of professional experience working with Transportation Management related process and activities.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of Transportation Management process in core industries
  • Good working knowledge of the TMS application within Oracle Suite
  • Experience on requirement gathering, creating requirement specifications and working on documenting use cases is a must
  • Basic knowledge of PL/SQL
  • Experience of working with tickets/incidents through a ticket management system
  • A good understanding of business requirements and prioritizing needs so as to deliver a cost effective service
  • Comfortable working across time-zones (open to shifts)
  • Advanced knowledge in MS-Office
  • Expert level English written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of Oilfield terminology and business practices. Oil & Gas Industry exposure
