Inspiring Women with insight event for STEM students

Schlumberger in South East Asia recently hosted a Women and Technology event for 60 female STEM students. The event was organized to inspire young women to pursue STEM related careers after their graduation.

Organized by our local Recruiting Manager, the first to fourth year STEM students attended and participated in a variety of activities including panel forums, interactive break-out sessions, career talks and an exclusive tour of our Cameron Technology Center in Johor.

The panel forum titled 'Propelling women into the technology industry’ provided useful insights from academic, alumni, human resources and industry perspectives to empower these young students to join the technology industry in the future. The objective of the break-out sessions was to identify and better understand, from the students, the reasons why women are not entering STEM-based careers.

Three of our successful female engineers, Sze, Crystal, and Siti shared their career journeys including personal challenges they faced. At the end of the career talk, we shared advice on personal branding and career preparation to encourage them to join the industry.

The feedback from many of the attendees was that they received “a huge amount of information and were inspired”, in addition to feeling “reassured of their ability to contribute to our industry and other STEM-based industries."

As part of our diversity and inclusion strategy, Schlumberger is committed to have women comprise 25% of our population at all levels of the company.
