Location: Midland, Texas, US
Start Date: 2007
I am currently a senior operator which involves rigging up and down at the location, well control operations, wiring explosives and crane operations, as well as overseeing all equipment for the job. I am also responsible for training and mentoring my crew and am known as the “motivator” of the group.
I wanted a career change—a role that drives and motivates me. None of the jobs I had had were leading anywhere and I wanted a change of direction and to provide for my family. I knew that Schlumberger would offer me that.
I work around a 14- to 16-hour day and am always busy. I am responsible for ensuring that every job gets started and is running efficiently and safely.
There are different challenges in my job every day, which is one of the reasons I enjoy it—different people, different attitudes, different approaches to the same job.
I work with a diverse range of people and am doing something different every day.
It’s a hot, dirty environment and you have to be prepared to get used to the elements. I did find it hard to adjust at first but I have built my seniority and have become the guy my crew look up to. I love that about my job.
The amount of equipment for one job was startling.
Be positive. Know what you want to do before you do it.
Schlumberger provides the best training in the industry. And because of that, we are able to work in safe environment despite the risks of the jobs we perform.
I am constantly challenged—every day. Every critical decision I make on a job for the company has my fingerprint. I love being the “go to” guy. It gives me great job satisfaction.
