Careers Profile

SLB Manufacturing facility bergen

Can you briefly describe your career to date?

I joined SLB in September 2017 as a Logistics Technician. I am responsible for the transport of sand to the Frac crews in my area—tracking and monitoring requests and ensuring crews receive the correct type of sand in the right quantities when they need it.

What attracted you to SLB and why did you decide to join us?

There is a strong work ethic, much like the military—you have a job to do, and you do it.

What is your experience of training at SLB?

It’s fast paced, like the job. There is a lot of information to take in and you have to be able to pick it up quickly.

Can you describe a typical day for you?

I get to the office at about 5.45am and have a handover with my colleague to find out my tasks for the day. My job involves a lot of communication—face-to-face, via Skype, or over the phone—managing crew requests.

What do you enjoy most about working for SLB?

The fast-paced environment and the challenges I have to solve every day keep my mind fresh. I love it.

What types of challenges do you face in your job?

The shift pattern of 7 days on, 7 days off might not be for everyone. But it works for me and my wife and son really well.

Around 500,000 lbs of proppant/sand are needed for each stage of a Frac Sight and there might be four stages completed per day. I have to ensure each of my crews has the equipment they need when they need it. Being able to communicate effectively and establishing a good rapport with my crews and suppliers is key, as is being able to remain calm under pressure.

What is the working environment like?

We are really supportive of one another and help each other manage our workloads. I know I can rely on my colleagues.

What advice would you give your younger self?

If it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is. And don't let people take advantage of your kindness. People are not as trustworthy as they seem.
