Job Summary

The Senior Geoscientist for Project Mendota is responsible for technical tasks such as static model building, managing seismic permitting, acquisition, seismic interpretation, and data integration within the Mendota BECCS Project.

The main functions of this position are:

  • Delivering technically robust models for integration into project tasks including, but not limited to, reservoir uncertainty analysis, seismic processing and interpretation, plume modelling, Area of Review (AoR) definition etc.
  • Provides technical leadership that fosters integration between the CCS Project Holding Company (HoldCo), Schlumberger D&I technical team (SLB) and partners including secondees from Chevron and the broader technical organization in Chevron.
  • Provides input and project management support to key program aspects such as planning of characterization well(s), seismic survey design and processing, in addition to monitoring program planning.

Relationships

  • The Senior Geoscientist position reports directly to the HoldCo Subsurface & Sequestration Lead and functionally in SLB to the SNE Geoscience Lead.
  • The Senior Geoscientist will work closely daily with peers from the HoldCo Subsurface & Sequestration team including reservoir engineers, geologist and well delivery manager.
  • The Senior Geoscientist will also work closely with technical representatives from SLB D&I commissioned to perform certain technical tasks and will assist in co-ordinating peer reviews and workshops with SLB SNE and CVX ETC.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • The Senior Geoscientist should maintain fluent communication with the HoldCo Subsurface & Sequestration Lead to ensure the characterization of critical subsurface elements meet the assurance process adopted by the HoldCo with input from the partners/stakeholders of the project.
  • Ensures retention of lessons learned to be shared across the HoldCo and SLB CCS businesses for improved performance.
  • Manages 3D seismic permitting, acquisition, and data processing contracts.
  • Integrates 3D seismic data into static model.
  • Performs quantitative analysis on seismic data.
  • Prepares seismically generated inputs for reservoir engineering simulation and plume modelling.

Software Competencies

  • Advanced technical skills in Petrel
    • Static Model Building
    • Seismic Interpretation, Inversion & Attribute Analysis
    • Uncertainty Analysis Workflows
  • Working knowledge of Techlog would be preferred

Requirements & Competencies

  • BSc or MSc Engineering Degree.
  • Minimum 10 years industry experience.
  • Strong technical integration skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills for interfacing with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organization skills, self-motivated, well organized, creative, and results oriented
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US without sponsorship
