Enjoying Life Outside the Office
With such a diverse global population, it’s no surprise that our employees’ interests outside the office are far reaching. And getting to know each other away from the workplace is a key part of Schlumberger life.
The 250 members of the Schlumberger Cycling Club in Houston, Texas—founded in 1996—regularly rack up an impressive 75,000 miles during the training season while also playing an important role in local fundraising.
And in a bid to ensure they succeed in their aims, around 140 members recently participated in a bike ride organized by the National MS Society, cycling 180 miles from Houston to Austin. Unfortunately, due to poor weather conditions, the second day of the event had to be cancelled. This didn’t deter our team though, who powered through 100 miles in just one day.
A group of green-fingered employees at the South Dairy Ashford office in Houston recently raised money for the same charity by growing and selling a variety of vegetables.
Adam, team member and Schlumberger employee, said, “The event was a great opportunity to raise funds for a good cause by selling healthy, delicious vegetables that employees can grow and enjoy all season long.”
And events aren’t restricted to land either. For those who prefer life “offshore”, Texas’ largest canoe and kayak race involved a 15-mile paddle along the scenic Buffalo Bayou. For four Schlumberger teams, the challenge was on to see who would be the first to arrive at the finish line and enjoy the celebrations at Sesquicentennial Park.
Josephine, who finished second in the solo short kayak women’s race, said, “Allowing and encouraging our employees to enjoy a life outside of the workplace and build positive relationships with their colleagues is essential and a win-win in terms of health, morale and productivity.”
