Position:  Polymeric Materials and Process Specialist at Schlumberger Houston Conveyance and Surface Equipment’s Center (HCS), Schlumberger.

General Position Description:

The Polymeric Materials and Process specialist’s Primary goals are incorporating new technology, new materials, trouble shooting, quality improvement, and scrap reduction. In addition to being the part of the Manufacturing Extrusion Technology Group, He or She should be willing to have a close co-ordination with Sustaining engineering and Design groups in all aspects of material selection, extrusion and other polymer processing operations. 


  • BS/MS in an Engineering discipline? 
  • It will be an added advantage if the person is a ME with 3+ years experience in extrusion. 
  • Position located near Houston, TX.

Specific Position Responsibilities:

  • Should be able to carry out specific Polymeric Materials and Technology related cable projects with innovativeness and in close co-ordination with different groups at HCS.
  • Design extrusion tools, especially dies and tips for extrusion of a wide range of polymers from    polyolefins to very costly Fluoropolymers.
  • Troubleshooting of extrusion process and other polymer processing operations associated with manufacturing of cables.
  • Continuous process improvement in the field of extrusion and cable manufacturing.
  • Train and guide extrusion operators in the field of extrusion and selection of extrusion tools like die & tip for a particular job.
  • Selection of all mechanical, electronic & electrical elements of a cable extrusion line.
  • Interface with Sustaining and Design groups and various suppliers to supplement the daily extrusion needs of the manufacturing facility.
  • Should be able to consult and work closely as a team with engineering & manufacturing to carry out some of the new polymer process or cable designs.
  • Should be able to efficiently maintain the extrusion lines to the needs of the technology and plants.

Tools & Resources available to the Engineer:  

  • Pro-Engineer CAD systems, Mechanical FEA software, Designers/Draftsmen, Materials Lab, Experienced Lab Technicians.
