Schlumberger has an opening in Bogotá, Colombia for a Geophysicist. The Geophysicist is responsible for serving as lead applied geophysicist in a business work group, providing appropriate, defensible solutions to the geophysical challenges encountered. The Area Geophysicist applies expertise to advise customers on a course of action and ensure project teams execute projects in a way that meets the customers' overall objectives as well as company goals. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide geophysics related solutions that make good business sense and meet quality expectations.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of processing software and workflows
  • Constantly strive to maximize the use of appropriate technologies to respond to customer needs
  • Understand the assumptions, limitations and interactions of available acquisition tools, survey design and modeling, data processes and reservoir characterization
  • Use understanding of data, systems, processes and customer challenges to direct sensible, economic and justifiable workflows. Guide testing and confirmation of the predicted versus actual response of the data
  • Participate in review of bids and contracts for technical pitfalls and opportunities
  • Share knowledge extensively. Mentor staff. Communicate with the regional technology hub, headquarters and other organizations, such as Research and Engineering. Communicate externally on company technologies with customers
  • Represent the company in the technical aspects of a project and be of equivalent or higher technical knowledge level than the customer’s own geophysicists

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree on Geophysics, Geophysics engineer or related post-degree
  • Excellent English language capabilities
  • 15+ years of relevant experience with Petrel app, and its workflows related to Geophysics and modelling
  • 2D and 3D seismic interpretation
  • Experience in seismic well mooring, Creation of sonic records from other basic ones, Generation of synthetic seismograms and extraction of wavelets
  • Conversion to depth and vice versa, using geo-cellular models for velocity population. On a reservoir scale as well as on a basin, focused on complex geological structures
  • Wide experience in acoustic and elastic seismic inversion
  • Stratigraphic seismic attributes for delineation of geo-bodies and structural attributes for fault systems such as naturally fractured reservoirs
  • Pre and Post-seismic processing, with a focus on seismic signal recovery, amplitude compensation, increasing the signal / noise ratio
  • Multidisciplinary integration of geophysical data through rock physics analysis, Classification of seismic lithology using Bayesian statistics
  • Candidates must be located and legally authorized to work in Colombia
