The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for performing mechanical design, technical analysis, prototype development, and experimental research associated with new product development activities at LTC (Lawrence Technology Center). The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer works within a multi-disciplinary team (mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, polymer engineers, manufacturing engineers, engineering technicians, manufacturing operators, etc.) toward product development goals. Furthermore, this individual will have responsibility for project management of short- or long-term projects with budgets ranging from $50K to $500K. 

Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Delivers the product or technology on-time at the necessary level of quality in compliance with requirements established by the business stakeholders (Business/Product Line/Group/Clients).
  • Plans and conducts development work on complex projects using new and unique approaches as applicable.
  • Works with project team to identify and organize the best approach for executing tasks required for enhanced project efficiency.
  • Performing product mechanical design and technical analysis as required.
  • Assists team members in establishing fabrication methods of EXP (Experimental Prototypes) products for V&V (Validation and Verification) testing.
  • Provides guidance for the transition of product prototype manufacturing to full-scale ENP and production manufacturing. 
  • Provides technical documentation for the team that describes proven solutions for the project, including design files, technical drawings and specifications documents as required by the SLB Quality management system.
  • Follows the applicable Product Development Process and adheres to all relevant Standards and Procedures.
  • Interfaces directly with stakeholders, including internal and external clients, providing prompt and efficient reporting of project activities. 
  • Implements good working practices relating to QHSE, technical rigor, professional behavior and performance.   
  • Maintains the necessary level of expertise for self through training and development as appropriate for the execution of projects.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Degree (BS) or advanced Degree (MS, PhD) in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant technical discipline.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years industrial experience in product development (Engineering, Manufacturing, Sustaining)) within Schlumberger or another organization.  
  • Demonstrated strong organizational abilities and interpersonal skills, as well as solid technical competency.
  • Senior status in Eureka or commensurate design experience within Schlumberger and/or another organization that will enable application for Senior status.
  • Desired experience designing downhole equipment for various applications (Artificial Lift, Completions, Drilling & Measurements, Wireline, etc.)
  • Desire to participate in hands-on experimental work.
  • Creative mindset.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and stakeholders in various organizations and locations.
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship.
