Formation Damage Laboratory Engineer

The M-I Product Group at Schlumberger is seeking a laboratory engineer. The successful candidate will join a team of geologists and chemists in our Formation Damage and Stability Lab in Houston. 

Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Perform analysis and characterizations of formation/reservoir rock samples.
  • Design and conduct laboratory tests to evaluate interactions between rocks and drilling and completion fluids products, e.g. HTHP return permeability tests, shale-fluid interaction tests.
  • Provide technical support in formation damage, shale-fluid interactions, and wellbore stability to global operations. 
  • Assume responsibility for a specific phase of a technical service, research, or development project.
  • Ascertain methods for finding solutions to certain problems and perform these procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Prepare reports for assigned projects.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment in proper condition.
  • Carry out research and development assignments pertaining to formation damage and wellbore stability.
  • Independently pursue study of current literature; attend conferences and symposiums, etc. to maintain professional competence.
  • Comply with Schlumberger quality, health, safety and environmental policies.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Minimum B.S. in geology, petroleum engineering, or mechanical engineering. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experimental rock mechanics expertise as well as HPHT equipment experience is a plus.
  • Special Core Analysis (SCAL) experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge/experience in fluid/rock interactions is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work well with customers.
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship.
