Cameron Senior Mechanical (Rotating) Engineer

The Senior Cameron Mechanical (Rotating) Engineer Act as a technical expert and take full technical ownership of the mechanical buyout rotating equipment (compressors, pumps, etc) from the initial design phase to the delivery at site, on the assigned proposals and projects. He or she ensures compliance of Cameron mechanical design with applicable industry standards and regulations, and client specifications for mechanical equipment. The engineer also meets or exceeds customer expectations in a timely manner within the budget limits. Assist other Cameron locations and branches with mechanical engineering support and troubleshooting issues.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Monitor Equipment Engineering progress, as required, to assure conformance to budget and schedule.
  2. Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in all pertinent aspects of the discipline including design, analysis techniques, products, applicable codes and construction practices related to assigned projects.
  3. Evaluate customer enquiries and specifications and working with Product Engr select or recommend buy out rotating equipment for the application.
  4. Work closely with team members and other engineering departments in project execution to ensure work is carried out within project specifications.
  5. Advise Product Engr or PEM of major buy out delivery schedules.
  6. Conduct technical training sessions for product engineering and other discipline teams.
  7. Work with Vendors to size and select equipment to match specifications or clearly define differences (clarifications or exceptions list) to customer.
  8. Produce data sheets, specifications and technical requisitions for major buy out equipment (rotating and packaged)
  9. Technically evaluate vendor quotations to meet required application and specifications.
  10. Review vendor documentation and comment on
  11. Support multiple concurrent projects.
  12. Work with Vendors and Purchasing to obtain cost estimates for the equipment.
  13. Assist in producing Installation, Operating (Start-up and Shut-down) and Maintenance Instruction manuals, including lists for Consumables, Special Tools, Lubricants, and Utilities.
  14. Provide technical support for trouble shooting or major buy out equipment.
  15. Advise and assist Construction Managers, QA/QC, Logistics and Sub-suppliers with the interpretation and clarification of documents.
  16. Provide input to the “Lessons learned” process and utilize findings from the process to update tools and processes.
  17. Visit vendors and fabricators during pre-award, manufacture and factory acceptance testing.
  18. Attend Vendor bid clarification meetings, kick off meetings and design review meetings
  19. Contribute to Mechanical engineering in house standards and procedures
  20. Check the work by others as required.
  21. Develop and check project rotating equipment data sheets and specifications, when required.
  22. Prove pump/compressor/other equipment mechanical design, when required,
  23. Assist tender and proposal team on the mechanical related technical queries when required.
  24. Participate in 3D Model review and provide necessary input in term on maintainability and suitable mechanical handling etc. 
  25. Performed IDC (Inter Discipline Check) for other discipline deliverables which related to Mechanical such as PID, Package GA layout, Level Sketch, Structural support details etc.
  26. Recommend alternate materials of construction to meet service requirements and optimize equipment costs.
  27. Reviewing project specifications and incorporating requirements into Client design and equipment / procurement specifications. Raise technical deviation and technical query accordance to project experience, technical calculation, and international standard code.
  28. Liaise with third party agencies as required to ensure equipment are designed in accordance with contractual requirements.
  29. Prepare technical requisition and conduct bid reviews for proposals and projects.
  30. Review and resolution of client comments and clarifications.


  1. Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 10-15 years’ experience within Oil and Gas or possibly Petrochemicals or Water Industry.
  2. Good knowledge of either static equipment or rotating equipment or packaged equipment for the oil and gas industry.
  3. Familiar with API standards for rotating equipment and guidelines.
  4. Familiar with ASME B&PV Code Section VIII, Div.1/2, EN 13445 and PD5500 Code and ASME B.31-3 Standards.
  5. Knowledge of national and international codes and standards for oil field process equipment design, shop fabrication procedures, inspection and NDE requirements, shipping preparation and terms, and field installation and start-up procedures.
  6. Experience / skill with multidiscipline project engineering functions.
  7. Proven experience with trouble-shooting of process equipment.
  8. International qualification like Professional Engineer, Chartered member of a relevant engineering institution or international equivalent is desired but not required.Willing to work in Petaling Jaya and open to international travel.
  9. Fluent in English and Malay language.
