Mechanical Design Engineer

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for performing mechanical design, technical analysis, prototype development, and experimental research associated with new product development activities at LTC (Lawrence Technology Center). The Mechanical Design Engineer works within a multi-disciplinary team (mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, polymer engineers, manufacturing engineers, engineering technicians, manufacturing operators, etc.) toward product development goals.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Delivers the product or technology on-time at the necessary level of quality in compliance with requirements established by the business stakeholders (Business/Product Line/Group/Clients).
  • Conducts development work on complex projects using new and unique approaches as applicable.
  • Works with project team to identify and organize the best approach for executing tasks required for enhanced project efficiency.
  • Performs product mechanical design and technical analysis as required.
  • Assists team members in establishing fabrication methods of experimental prototypes for V&V (Validation and Verification) testing.
  • Works with manufacturing team members to guide the transition from lab-scale prototype manufacturing to full-scale production.
  • Produces technical documentation for the team that describes proven solutions for the project, including design files, technical drawings and specifications documents as required by the Schlumberger quality management system.
  • Follows the applicable Product Development Process and adheres to all relevant standards and procedures.
  • Implements good working practices relating to QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, & Environment), technical rigor, professional behavior, and performance.   
  • Maintains the necessary level of expertise for self through training and development as appropriate for the execution of projects.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline (ABET accredited)
  • Technical competency in mechanical design and modeling
  • Strong desire to participate in hands-on experimental work
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and stakeholders in various organizations and locations.
  • Preferred requirements:
    • Industrial experience (2 or more years) in engineering (product design, product testing, product development, or manufacturing).
    • Experience working with team members from other disciplines (electrical, materials, chemical, manufacturing, systems, etc.).
    • Advanced Degree (MS, PhD) in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant technical discipline.
