Drilling Product Expert - Smith Bits

The Well Construction (WEC) Drilling Product Expert (PE) is responsible for assisting the product service delivery sales (PSD) team to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable product and service delivery to our customers. The PE supports the sales team through application ownership and acts as a communication bridge between field and city sales representatives. The PE is responsible for the development of oil and gas drilling PDC and roller cone bits for use in a multitude of Canadian applications. Field and city customer visits are a regular occurrence for a PE to understand the needs of our customers and limitations of our products. Through continued product development, sales support, and a focus on cost-of-service delivery (COSD), the PE drives the business.


Roles and Responsibilities:

·         Develop new drill bits from understanding the needs of the application and the limitations of the product.

·         Testing of new technology PDC cutters and materials closing the development loop.

·         Customer technical support through training and post run reports.

·         Realtime analysis of drilling data.

·         Identify areas where new and cost-effective techniques can be applied.

·         Explore opportunities for value-added products and services.

·         Consult with relevant subject matter experts as required to optimize the technical design.

·         Product failure investigation and root cause analysis.

·         Support multiple Business Line(s) operations in a collaborative optimized job design.

·         Assist sales and commercial team in evaluating technical viability and product selection.

·         Rig visits and field travel on occasion.


Qualifications and Experience:

·         Technical Diploma in Mechanical, Petroleum Engineering Technology or  university degree in Mechanical, Petroleum Engineering or Geosciences.

·         Minimum 2 years of experience in oil and gas drilling engineering ideally within the oil and gas service industry, equivalent experience would be considered

·         Strong customer centric mindset

·         Mechanical aptitude

·         Extensive Microsoft Office experience (Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint, and Teams)

·         Clean driving record along with a safety centric mindset

·         Flexible interpersonal skills focusing on communication within a team setting

·         Self-motivated with strong organizational skills

·         Ability to keep up with the fast-paced nature of drilling in Canada

·         Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in Canada, without sponsorship
