Job Summary   

  • Lead design activities and technical discussions.
  • Keep abreast of Industry Codes and
  • Act as a technical expert for design issues, and provide quality engineering design services for company’s products, for proposals, projects, and warranty work.
  • Ensure compliance of company’s designs with applicable industry codes, standards and regulations, and client specifications.
  • Meet or exceed customer expectations in timely manner within the budget limits.
  • Assist other company’s locations and branches with design activities and troubleshooting issues.
  • Serve as a representative for a product line within the design discipline.


  • Review and monitor work of design team personnel, as required, to assure accuracy and conformance with Client and / or Company Specifications, governing codes, good engineering practices, good safety practices, project procedures, and job requirements.
  • Monitor design progress, as required, to assure conformance to budget and schedule.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge in all pertinent aspects of the discipline including design, products, applicable codes and construction practices related to assigned projects.
  • Advise and assist product engineers with the interpretation and clarification of applicable industry Codes and Client Specification requirements.
  • Advise and assist Construction Managers, QA/QC, and Sub-suppliers with the interpretation and clarification of design documents.
  • Provide input to the “Lessons learned” process and utilize findings from the process to update tools and processes.
  • Provide input to proposals for manhour estimates, design work schedules as required.
  • Attend project kick-off meetings as required.
  • Supervise the outsourcing of engineering design work, if required. Review, as required, vendor data and drawings to ensure compliance with client specifications or applicable standards.
  • Coordinate design work with other regions, as required.
  • Assist in developing company’s standards for company’s products.
  • Continuously improve designs of company’s equipment to decrease fabrication costs and improve equipment reliability and life.
  • Perform design work as directed by the Discipline Engineering Manager, in accordance with applicable design procedures, practices, project specifications, and industry standards.
  • Assist in the review of customer specifications and equipment designs to comply with project specifications.
  • Review “as-built” drawings, as required, to ensure conformity.
  • Often take lead role directing activities of team members
  • Provide guidance, and facilitate knowledge transfer, to more junior members of the design team.
  • Participate in, or lead 3D model design reviews, as required.
  • Participate in, or lead meetings, on design related activities, as required.
  • Adhering to all applicable design information, codes, specifications, practices and procedures, produce 3D models using software as follows:
    • CADWorx
    • PDMS – E3D
    • Autodesk Inventor
    • AutoCAD
    • AutoCAD Plant 3D
    • Tekla
    • AVEVA E3D
  • Adhering to all applicable design information, codes, specifications, practices and procedures, produce design deliverables as required, as follows:
  • 3D models in applicable software.
  • Vessel / Equipment layout and GA drawings.
  • Vessel / Equipment setting plans.
  • Vessel / Equipment Internals drawings.
  • Piping Routing, Piping Arrangements and Layouts.
  • Structural Arrangements and Layouts, including supports.
  • Foundation Loading drawings.
  • Piping Isometrics.
  • Termination / Interface drawings.
  • Lifting Arrangement drawings.
  • Mechanical Handling drawings.
  • Process drawings (e.g. P&IDs, PFDs, MSDs)
  • E&I Cable Tray drawings.
  • Bills of Materials.
  • Extract weight and C of G data from models.
  • Produce report data from models.
  • Assist in providing necessary design information to Project/Client/Third Party, as required.
  • Ability to check and support the other disciplines in the preparation of various engineering deliverables required in Pressure Vessel & Process skid fabrication and assembly work.
  • Ability to check, understand, and explain complex P&IDs, vessel, structural, and piping fabrication drawings, isometrics and bills of materials.


  • High school diploma or degree in Engineering, with 15+ years of experience in the industry.
  • In depth knowledge of Drawing Office Practices and Procedures.
  • In depth knowledge of Industry Design Standards, and/or in-house Design/Draughting procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of structural steel typically used for modular design of onshore/offshore process equipment packages.
  • Good knowledge of pipe supports.
  • In depth knowledge of technical aspects of oil and gas products and processes (company’s products/processes preferred).
  • Good knowledge and understanding of fabrication and NDE methods.
  • Good knowledge of the setup and administration of the CAD software in use by company.
  • Proven experience with trouble-shooting of design related issues.
  • Ability to utilize MS Office software.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals outside the company.
  • Good knowledge of national codes, ASME and ISO standards.
  • Ability to work as a team member with various company’s departments associated with designing, estimating, fabricating, operating, and selling the equipment.
  • High level of ability with the common Engineering design programs, including AutoCAD, PDMS, Inventor, CADWorx, AVEVA E3D.
  • Have working rights in Malaysia and willing to work in Petaling Jaya.
  • Proficient in Malay and English written and spoken languages.
