Job Title: Carbon Sequestration Geoscientist (Experimental)

Location: Cambridge, MA.


Schlumberger Doll Research Center is looking for a Geoscientist to collaborate with fellow scientists and investigate topics surrounding the ever-expanding applications of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). In this role you will develop experimental settings with emphasis on carbon geological storage, and work with other scientists in computational domain. Strong background in experimental methods, with a particular focus in two areas below are key to succeed in this role:

  1. Earth formation evaluation methods by integrated use of both subsurface (wellbore) and surface measurements, extending to time lapse monitoring, to serve the emerging energy transition sector of CCUS, with emphasis on carbon geological storage, and applications in renewables such as geothermal energy harvesting
  2. Experimental science related to the fundamental physics and chemistry of fluids flow of miscible and immiscible fluids in porous media, large-scale reservoir dynamics and geomechanics, and flood front monitoring methods in developing solutions

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide research and development solutions based on principles of physics and mathematical models
  • Build virtual and real prototypes, products, and systems suitable for testing
  • Design testing procedures and coordinate tests, and document results
  • Conduct technical reviews of project requirements, specifications and risk analysis
  • Assist in commercialization tasks where applicable
  • Contribute to design standards
  • Create and maintain product documentation
  • Make presentations to technical, management, and client needed
  • Author technical reports, papers, articles and patents
  • Share expertise via internal knowledge sharing methods and special interest groups. Build informal networks throughout the organization and with customers
  • Assign, direct and review the work of technicians and junior engineers. Mentor junior team members as required
  • Provide training and support to customers and field representatives
  • Maintain familiarity with company technology, organization and business
  • Keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets; Learn new skills and practices as required to develop products that maintain Schlumberger's technical leadership
  • Participate in recruiting activities

Detailed qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering, geo-mechanical engineering, applied math, physics, geophysics, earth/environmental sciences, or related fields with preferably thesis work related to CCUS methods.
  • Solid lab experiment design and execution experience
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational and communication skills
  • Enthusiasm and ability to work within a team of scientists and engineers
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US
