Carbon Capture Process Engineer

 

For more than 20 years, Schlumberger, now SLB has been involved in CCS projects around the world, helping customers reduce emissions by providing services and technologies for permanent underground sequestration of CO2. 

 

Recently, SLB New Energy has started exploring ways to go beyond our traditional offering and directly partner with emitters to assess, develop, and operate entire CCS value chains. The scope of collaboration goes beyond subsurface requirements and includes project economics, technology selection, business models, and permitting. We're designing new partnerships and business models with a focus on  

 

  • exploring and enabling low-cost projects in strategic locations 
  • creating partnerships with industry leaders 
  • seeking scale and efficiency by enabling CCS hubs.

Candidate would be responsible for conducting new product developments (NPD) for Carbon Capture. Areas of NPD include process development, equipment development, digital technology development, and etc.  

 

*Experience in acid-gas treatment and Carbon Capture desired.

 

The job involves both desktop engineering studies and development, and hands-on lab and field work. This role is highly technical, and also requires project management skills.

Roles and Responsibilities:

 

  • Formulate the NPD project objectives, technical scope and requirements  
  • Determine the development steps, deliverables, and milestones, with a clear pathway to commercialization. 
  • Estimate the development schedule, resources, and costs. 
  • Conduct FEED level engineering studies. 
  • Develop the test matrix. 
  • Design and build the testing apparatus. 
  • Detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, start up, and operation of large scale pilot plants. 
  • Perform the tests 
  • Analyze the testing results and draw conclusions 
  • Transform the NPD results to engineering products 
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Write technical reports and publications 
  • Give presentations and trainings 
       

Requirements: 

 

  • A successful candidate needs to have a strong drive to develop something new, and a desire to roll-up the sleeves and follow through the details of the development work. 
  • *Experience in acid-gas treatment and Carbon Capture desired.
  • Chemical engineer with background in amine acid gas treatment and glycol gas dehydration. 
  • Experiences in process engineering and project engineering in EPC projects. 
  • Experiences in plant commissioning, startup, operations, maintenance, and services. 
  • Solid fundamental engineering knowledge and scientific understanding in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, mass transfer, heat transfer, chemical reaction kinetics, modeling, and data analysis. 
  • Strong understanding in designing test matrix, test apparatus, and pilot plants. 
  • Ability to develop engineering calculation methods that can be applied by other engineers to design process and equipment.  
  • Operational level of knowledge and experiences in process controls and process equipment. 
  • Hands-on experiences in running process simulators such as HYSIS and ProMax. Experiences in running VMG Symmetry is especially desirable. 
  • Skills in verbal and written communications including but not limited to presentations and technical reports. 
  • Capability in project management. 
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university. Graduate degree is preferred with 0-5 years direct experience.
