Early Production Facilities (EPF) - Laboratory Specialist Trainee

The EPF (Early Production Facilities) Laboratory Specialist Trainee is an entry-level development role for recent graduates to gain practical laboratory experience supporting Early Production Facility projects. Under guidance of experienced laboratory specialists and technical supervisors, the trainee will support laboratory testing, fluid sampling, quality control, data management, and laboratory operations, while developing technical competency in hydrocarbon analysis, production chemistry, laboratory quality systems, and HSE practices in accordance with SLB standards.

This position includes structured learning, on-the-job training and competency development all in a diverse and inclusive work environment adhering to SLB values of people, technology and performance.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in laboratory testing activities as per SLB procedures, safety requirements, and quality standards
  • Support routine analysis of crude oil, gas, produced water, glycol, amine, and production chemicals using industry-approved methods
  • Participate in field sampling under SLB HSE protocols
  • Apply laboratory quality control practices in line with SLB QMS and ISO standards
  • Assist with calibration, maintenance, and checks of lab equipment
  • Record and manage results, reports, calibration logs, and quality documentation using SLB digital tools
  • Assist in inventory management of consumables and reagents
  • Prepare laboratory reports and technical summaries for internal stakeholders
  • Participate in audits, inspections, quality improvement, and compliance verification
  • Support lab commissioning, startup activities, and new method implementation as required
  • Develop competency in hydrocarbon analysis and fluid characterization
  • Maintain safe, compliant lab environment, participate in safety programs and risk assessments
  • Complete structured training, competency milestones, and development plans
  • Foster diversity and inclusion, cultural sensitivity, and adaptability in a global setting
  • Support SLB’s sustainability initiatives through responsible lab practices
  • Uphold SLB’s Code of Conduct and ethical standards in all professional activities

 

Experiences and Exposures:

  • Diploma in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, or relevant discipline
  • 0-2 years of experience (recent graduate preferred)
  • Strong academic background in chemistry, laboratory science, or related subjects
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques, chemical handling, and laboratory safety
  • Internship, research project, or practical lab experience advantageous
  • Familiarity with lab equipment (GC, spectrophotometer, water analysis, etc.) advantageous
  • Awareness of oil/gas production, hydrocarbon properties, or process fluids desirable
  • Knowledge of quality systems and ISO standards an advantage
  • Familiarity with digital data management, MS Office
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and eager to learn
  • Good teamwork, communication, and willingness for field/lab work
  • Willingness to travel and/or relocate as required
  • Fluency in English
