Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Umbilical Senior Designer to join our dynamic Umbilical & Cable Systems Engineering team at our manufacturing and design facility in Mobile, AL.

 

The Umbilical Senior Designer will actively contribute to design, manufacturing and delivery of subsea oil and gas umbilicals and distribution equipment under the guidance of a lead engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design of subsea umbilical and distribution equipment such as umbilical cross section, topside and subsea termination assemblies and general arrangements, mudmat foundations, steel tube flying leads, and umbilical installation reel and sea fastening arrangements. 
  • Development of 3D SolidWorks models in accordance with industry and client standards and specifications under the direction of the lead engineer
  • Generate 2D drawings using AutoCAD for umbilical cross section layout and hydraulic and electrical schematics
  • Create drawing packages inclusive of assembly and general arrangement through detailed component level drawings including fabrication and machining drawings
  • Generate materials and BOM in SAP
  • Performing tolerance studies to ensure fitment of assemblies
  • Participate and assist in preparation for internal and client design reviews
  • Provide input data to engineers for required calculations
  • Generate physical models using 3D plotter upon request
  • Provide manufacturing and supplier support as required

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Drafting and Design, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of technical experience.  Subsea engineering experience is preferred but not required.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with subsea umbilicals, subsea distribution equipment, or subsea equipment is preferred.  At a minimum, a thorough understanding of basic machining and fabrication processes is required.
  • Capable of reading, interpreting and producing electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • Competency with software such as SAP, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MathCAD and Excel
  • Effective communication of ideas and concepts and ability to explain detailed technical information
  • Ability to develop good working relationships and work well in a team environment.   Capable of developing strong working relationships with a variety of roles
  • Solid general technical ability
  • Strong work ethic
  • Hands on approach to design and willingness to support manufacturing activities as required
  • Familiarity with 3D rapid prototyping 
  • Continuous improvement mindset with focus on cost effective design solutions
