SLB is seeking a motivated Cost Controller to support our Data Center infrastructure solutions business.
This role will be responsible for managing project cost control during the pre-construction and execution phase of Data Center projects. The Cost Controller converts the tender estimate into the project control budget and maintains full visibility of commitments, expenditures, and forecasted outcomes throughout pre-construction and construction. Working closely with project management, contracts, supply chain, and finance teams, the role ensures that cost performance reflects actual project progress and supports timely decision-making. The role supports projects delivered under Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) and cost‑reimbursable models for hyperscale data‑center clients, requiring high levels of cost transparency, audit readiness, and alignment with contractual cost principles.
The role will require daily co coordination with construction, contracts, and finance teams. Involves detailed review of cost data, documentation, and progress reports. Some travel may be required between projects or to the Calgary office for reviews and reporting.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain the project cost control system based on the approved contract value and tender estimate
- Provide accurate visibility of project commitments, expenditures, and forecasted final cost
- Ensure alignment between cost tracking, project schedule progress, and contractual baselines
- Identify cost risks and opportunities early and support management in implementing corrective actions
- Maintain consistent cost reporting in accordance with project controls and financial governance requirements.
- Ensure project costs are recorded and forecasted in accordance with contractual definitions of reimbursable, non‑reimbursable, and disallowed costs (as applicable) under the GMP framework.
- Support open‑book cost transparency and audit readiness expectations typical of hyperscale clients.
- Support cost reporting practices that work in concert with applicable GAAP/IFRS and the project’s defined cost accounting methodology.
- Prepare and submit progress invoices in line with contract payment terms, billing milestones, and the approved schedule of values.
- Reconcile invoiced amounts against recorded costs, earned progress, and commitments before each billing cycle.
- Ensure invoices include supporting documentation (cost reports, subcontractor invoices, timesheets, receipts) that meets open-book and audit requirements under the GMP framework.
- Track retention, fee, contingency drawdown, and allowances, and reflect them correctly on each pay application.
- Manage the review and approval of subcontractor and vendor invoices against purchase orders, contract values, and verified progress.
- Coordinate with finance to monitor billed vs. unbilled revenue, accounts receivable, and cash flow forecasts.
- Resolve client invoice queries, rejections, or disputed items promptly, and keep a record of all adjustments.
- Working with Contracts and ensure approved change orders are added to the billing baseline before they are invoiced.
