Sr. Mechanical Vessels Engineer

The Sr. Mechanical Vessels Engineer is responsible for providing training for a group of vessel engineering professionals. Lead activities and technical discussions, facilitating the integration of new team members. Mentor junior vessels engineers and share best practice and innovation. Keep abreast of Industry Codes and Guidelines. Act as a technical expert for vessel design issues and perform mechanical design calculations as necessary. Ensure compliance of Product Line vessel design with applicable industry codes, standards and regulations, and client specifications for Pressure Vessel. Assist other Product Line locations and branches with mechanical design
and troubleshooting issues.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Review and monitor work of Vessel Engineering personnel, as required, to assure accuracy and conformance with Client and / or Company Specifications, governing codes, good engineering practices, good safety practices, project procedures, and job requirements.
  • Monitor Vessel Engineering progress either from the team , a 3rd party or a vessel fabricator as required, to assure conformance to budget and schedule. Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in all pertinent aspects of the discipline including design, analysis techniques, products, applicable codes and construction practices related to assigned projects.
  • Advise and assist project and discipline engineers with the interpretation and clarification of applicable industry Codes and Client Specification requirements. Advise and assist Construction Managers, QA/QC, and Sub-suppliers with the interpretation and clarification of construction documents.
  • Provide input to the “Lessons learned” process and utilize findings from the process to update tools and processes. Supervise the outsourcing of vessel engineering and vessel fabrication. Review, approve, comment and reject vessels’ vendors documents. Ability to check complex vessel fabrication drawings and bills of materials.
  • Conduct technical training sessions covering ASME and EN Codes and industry standards requirements for product engineering and other discipline teams. Assist in developing standards for Product Line.
  • Participate in continuing education to maintain professional status as required by licensing authorities and to enhance professional skills. Continuously improve vessel designs of Product Line equipment to decrease fabrication costs and improve equipment reliability and life.
  • Create or check the “Design Basis” documents specific to the particular project. Perform or check ASME VIII-1/2, EN 13445 and PD5500 Code calculations with all applicable design loads and design combinations in accordance with the “Design Basis”.. Deep understanding of materials and corrosion. Select and recommend alternate materials to meet service requirements and optimize overall costs of vessels.
  • Elaborate vessels’ datasheets, technical specifications, technical requisitions, technical bid evaluation and provide technical advice when selecting fabrication shops or vessel’s vendors.
  • Assist to FAT and SAT of vessels, as well as support troubleshooting at site during pre-commissioning, commissioning, start up and operations.
  • Perform peer reviews of team design work including proposals, cost estimates, deliverables, and fabrication drawings.

  • Possess a high degree of initiative.
  • Ability to work as a team member with various Product Line departments associated with designing, estimating, fabricating, constructing and operating.
  • Ability to work independently with some supervision.
  • Capability to interact with customers and assist in preparing technical presentations for customers.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • International qualification like Professional Engineer, chartered member of a relevant engineering institution or international equivalent is desired but not required.
  • Good knowledge of technical aspects of oil and gas products and processes.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing withsuperiors, colleagues, and individuals outside the Company.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 10 years’ experience in the ASME B&PV Code Section VIII, Div.1/2, EN 13445 and PD5500 Code and ASME B.31-3 Standards.
  • In depth knowledge of national and international codes and standards for pressure vessel design of field process equipment, shop fabrication procedures, and inspection and NDE requirements.
  • Experience with commercial engineering design programs such as Compress, PVElite.
  • Highly experienced in material selection for vessels and static equipment based on different compositions or corrosive environments.
  • Knowledge in coating procedures for static equipment.
  • Having prepared procedures and participated in FAT for static equipment. Clear understanding of NDE of static equipment.
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship
