Is SLB involved in renewable energy?

In 2020 we launched SLB New Energy to explore new businesses in low-carbon or carbon-neutral energy technologies. Our approach is to apply our domain expertise in areas adjacent to our existing activities and use our global footprint and execution platform to deliver at scale. We are using partnership models and our experience in technology industrialization to expand into energy verticals beyond oil and gas. Our diverse New Energy portfolio includes ventures in geothermal and carbon capture and sequestration (CCS)—where we bring decades of project experience to a growing market—and geoenergy, clean hydrogen, and lithium, where we work on breakthrough technologies for new markets.

Does SLB have any employee resource groups?

We are committed to providing a dynamic working environment where talent can flourish. Our employee resource groups are essential to gathering feedback, improving engagement on diversity and inclusion topics, and driving action at a local level. Our employee resource groups include: Connect Women, an internal SLB networking community of approximately 7,000 members, in which women and men exchange ideas, promote gender equality, and support career progression. Another internal networking group, Men for Change, seeks to engage men to become advocates of gender diversity and inclusion. How does SLB support health and wellbeing?

We need to support employees to live their best lives. Our Live Well program was launched with the vision for SLB employees to be the healthiest and happiest people in our industry. Our mission is to provide a positive environment for people to flourish and for business to thrive. The Live Well program takes a preventive approach to reducing serious adverse health outcomes such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and debilitating mental health conditions. The program seeks to engage our people on the management of their own health risks, and utilizes Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) and Behavioral Science (BeScience) disciplines, enabling a continuous reduction in health risks. Each of our geographies is responsible for implementing a localized health and wellbeing program comprising health training, nutritional guidance, access to mental health resources, smoking cessation support, exercise opportunity, medical screening for employees, health communication plan, medical data management and digital health applications, and audit and compliance measures. In addition, building on the foundation of mindfulness practice, our Unlock Your Power program focuses on developing emotional intelligence, helping attendees to develop better self-awareness, manage stress at individual and team level and create the conditions for personal growth, increased creativity, collaboration and psychological safety.

How does SLB collaborate with universities?

Our university engagement initiatives play a key role in our talent acquisition and sustainability strategies. We collaborate with hundreds of universities from all over the world to support education and research in STEM subjects, while attracting talented diverse graduates of local universities from the countries in which we work. We also select certain institutions for our University Ambassador Program, through which we assign a senior-level SLB manager as an Ambassador to an institution for recruiting, research, community outreach, and technology transfer opportunities. Today the number of Ambassador Universities has grown to about 70, selected based on several criteria, including their educational rankings (nationally or internationally), their research capacity especially relevant to advancing the science and technology of our sector, as well as their economic and social impact, nationally, regionally and globally. In addition, through our Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) program, we work with universities to drive innovation for the energy transition and decarbonization of industry through sponsoring graduate and post graduate work, university energy innovation days and global energy forums.

Training, career opportunities and the SLB lifestyle

What type of training will I receive?

We believe that high-quality training is fundamental to both your success and the success of our business. When you join SLB as a trainee, you'll initially follow a structured development program, which lasts three to five years depending on the role. No matter what your background, we ensure you have the right training to develop quickly and advance in your role. The program blends technical, safety, personal development, business and managerial courses, and on-the-job validated training courses.

Is career progression possible at SLB?

Yes. In a company of approximately 85,000 employees in 120 countries, there are always opportunities to advance; whether you want to stay on a technical career path or move into other areas—or to another country—there are almost endless projects to get stuck into.

Is there a typical SLB lifestyle?

Depending on which area of the business you are working in it will differ. However, SLB lifestyle certainly is not for everyone! In any job, there can be long hours, sometimes away from home. Can I work abroad?

You could be working in your own country, or abroad, in +45 DegC in a desert, or -45 DegC in the arctic. There are also opportunities to work onshore or offshore. When you apply for a job you will initially be contacted by the recruiter working in the country that you are based.

Do I still need to go through the structured learning program if I am an experienced hire?

We believe in ongoing development opportunities for all employees throughout their careers. Depending on your previous experience and the role you join us in, we will provide appropriate training to ensure you have the competencies to achieve your maximum potential in the role. In general, experienced hires are not required to go through a specific structured learning and development program.

How many days per month can I expect to be working on a rig as a field engineer on an international assignment?

This is very dependent on your location and can vary. When you attend interview, your recruiter will be able to provide further information.

Is my profile information and CV stored within SLB indefinitely? If not for how long will it be active?

This is subject to local regulation. However, candidates can use the ‘opt out’ option when accessing the candidate portal (by clicking on the link ‘My SLB Career’). By doing this, all the data submitted is automatically deleted.
