Research Internship Material Science, Physical Chemistry (3 - 12 months) - Development of elastomer nano composites for extreme conditions of use
We are Schlumberger, the leading provider of technology and services to the energy industry. Throughout much of the oil and gas lifecycle in over 120 countries; we design, develop, and deliver technology and services that transforms how work is done.
We define the boundaries of the industry by unleashing our talented people’s energy. We’re looking for innovators to join our diverse community of colleagues and develop new solutions and push the limits of what’s possible. If you share our passion for discovery and want to find out what you could really do, then here is the place to do it.
Schlumberger’s research laboratory in Cambridge is located two miles from the city centre, close to the majority of the physical science departments of Cambridge University. The research in this laboratory involves high-quality science focused on applications important for the energy industry. The laboratory is fortunate to host many interns; these young scientists make a valuable contribution to the research and it is our intention that they receive a good training experience that increases their scientific and general professional skills.
We have a vacancy for an intern in the area of polymer materials chemistry. The work will be primarily experimental and involve application of advanced physico-chemical techniques to study polymer degradation processes under representative extreme conditions of use. Building on the work the intern will also be involved in the development and characterisation of novel nano- and micro-composite materials.
The intern will work within a team of experienced scientists. The internship would be suitable for those interested in physical chemistry, polymer science, analytical chemistry and materials science.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
The candidates will oversee the project under the supervision of the tutor. This is a great opportunity for young scientist/engineer to manage their first project. We will expect from the candidate to learn new skills, new techniques, generate high quality data, deliver a report and present the results to the stakeholder.
Schlumberger is an equal employment opportunity employer. Qualified applicants are considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or other characteristics protected by law.
