Schlumberger has an opening in Egypt for an Information Management Engineer role in the Digital Subsurface Solutions Data Science team, who will be responsible for guiding the successful delivery of Analytic Solutions to internal customers.

Location:  Cairo, Egypt

The Information Management Engineer is responsible for the back-office support and/or proactive support and implementation of Information Management software products, services and solutions within the petrotechnical workflows. IM Engineers will provide high quality on-site support and project implementation services to clients of Schlumberger, resolving complex software issues and sharing relevant software information with clients in order to pre-empt potential issues. 

He/She reports to the Technical Team Leader, Services Manager or other Operations Line Management 

Successful candidate are able to foster and maintains excellent internal, client and third party relationships and possess a high degree of initiative. They are adaptable quick to learn new technologies; keeps abreast of key developments in relevant technologies.  Can effectively analyze and solves problems with attention to the root cause.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Data management, data warehousing, data integration, data migration, business intelligence, analytics, and project delivery across advisory and technical delivery projects.
  • Work closely with the data science and business intelligence teams to develop data models and pipelines for research, reporting, and machine learning
  • Create SQL views, Stored procedures and generate dashboards and reports.
  • Perform system design, upgrades, and maintenances according to business needs.
  • Develop schemas, tables, triggers, indexes, sequences, constraints, functions and procedures.
  • May provide extended on-site support at client offices, maintaining a professional image at all times  
  • Investigates, analyzes, resolves and prepares reports on moderate to complex client tickets via telephone, email or on-site visits  
  • Installs, upgrades and assists in the integration of applications and supporting technologies  
  • Creates and implements efficient Information Management workflow processes with limited supervision  
  • Maintains accurate status records for on-going projects and assists in forecasting, auditing, planning and invoicing  
  • Develops, implements and documents best practice policies and procedures for new projects or initiatives  
  • Proactively visits clients to discuss software related issues, including defects, workarounds and emergency fixes, providing information detailing the history, resolution, and status  
  • Develops client visit schedules with Account Managers, prioritizing by revenue impact and marketing events  
  • Provides health check services at client installations to pre-empt problems  
  • Initiates and leads client conference calls on topics of key interest such as new features, upgrade advice, product usage tips  
  • Prioritizes issues and works with Product Champions to advocate client requests  
  • Monitors service quality and pre-emptively informs supervisors when potential issues arise  
  • Reproduces moderate to complex client tickets on test datasets, or client datasets and documents workflows that exhibit the issue  
  • Explains multi-product, multi domain workflow concepts and relevant data model characteristics to clients when required  
  • Performs advanced data quality control tasks for well and seismic data  
  • Writes and implements command line and database related scripts to perform data definition and manipulation updates, additions or deletions  
  • Customizes forms and reports as per client specifications  
  • Assists in the collection, maintenance, analysis, presentation, delivery and archiving of data, (Schlumberger, legacy or third party systems) based on project requirements  
  • Provides demonstrations as required, including relevant data model characteristics  
  • May provide application service provider (ASP) services  
  • May perform data loading and updating activities using SIS IM and G&G software applications, as well as third party applications, where applicable  
  • Assists certified trainers in technical instruction to the client, as required  
  • Adheres to all standards of confidentiality and security  
  • Recognizes other revenue generating opportunities for sales and training. Suggests additional services to client and follows up on leads with manager and/or sales representative  
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art computer technology, equipment, and systems; participates in professional development activities as appropriate  
  • Responsible for project equipment budget planning, equipment ordering and maintenance 

Basic Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering, Geosciences or Petroleum.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL/Oracle, relational databases and SQL queries, have solid experience in delivering projects.
  • Coding proficiency n at least one of programming language (C#,Python, Ruby, Java, etc)
  • Excellent knowledge of data visualization/Business intelligence tools in practical projects.
  • Excellent Knowledge of Linux and widows server.
  • Strong client-facing experience as a data engineer.
  • 3 - 7 years related experience 
  • Excellent oral, written communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Must be able to legally work in Egypt. Egyptian candidates preferred or current Egyptian residents may apply.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Industry experience as a Data Engineer or related specialty (e.g., Software Engineer, Business Intelligence Engineer, Data Scientist) with a track record of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets.
  • Experience building/operating highly available, distributed systems of data extraction, ingestion, and processing of large data sets.
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
