Job Description:

The IP Attorney serves as an integral member of a technology center, providing IP legal services and advice in support of new product development and manufacturing. The successful candidate will have strong patent prosecution experience, an understanding of freedom to operate, and enjoy learning about developing technologies in a dynamic environment.  The right candidate will have a team attitude and be able to anticipate IP needs and partner with engineering to secure a competitive advantage and protect disruptive technologies.

Your role will be to support the Reservoir Performance Engineering team based in the SRPC Center (and possibly in other remote Centers, based in Europe, US or Asia) regarding all Intellectual Property matters.

You will coordinate with the Reservoir Performance IP Team in order to maximize the benefits of the patent portfolio in view of the budget assigned to the Division.

You will be interacting regularly and developing relationships with different internal stakeholders including the Engineering teams and management, Supply Chain, legal and operational teams.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for an Intellectual Property docket with an emphasis on tailoring the portfolio to reinforce technology roadmaps
  • Prepares and prosecutes patent applications for a global patent portfolio
  • Drafts and negotiates development agreements, confidentiality agreements, collaboration agreements, and consulting agreements
  • Provides IP review and analysis through all phases of product development
  • Partners with engineering to secure new invention disclosures and recommends appropriate disposition to management 
  • Advises management of the relevant technology center on IP risk issues
  • Conducts intellectual property training and counsels management on IP legal issues and Company policies
  • Supports IP counsel in enforcement matters involving the technology center
  • Monitors intellectual property activity in relevant technology areas
  • Participates in the Legal Department training and development initiatives

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Graduated with a Bachelor or master’s degree in physics, electrical, engineering or software technology. Your background will enable you to understand the various and diverse high-profile technologies that are developed in the SRPC Center (sensors for physics measurements, tools with mechanical properties sustaining harsh conditions in the wells, electronics, and digital or software products that may include Artificial Intelligence).
  • A Master 2 in Intellectual Property (such as CEIPI) is required.
  • Partial or full qualification as European and/or French Patent Attorney is preferred.
  • At least 4-5 years of experience in a private practice or in-house is preferred. During this experience, you will have gained knowledge in patent law as well as patent drafting and prosecution. Experience in drafting contracts and/or freedom to operate analysis are welcome as well.
  • Ability to work in both French and in English and able to work in both languages. Both languages need to be adequately mastered in view of the important ecosystem the Clamart Center has built in France over the years and of the international profile of the company.
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in France.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple simultaneous projects effectively
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to understand the business needs

The IP Attorney position is for a 1-year temporary contract (CDD) – at the end of the 1-year contract, there is a possibility that this contract evolves into a permanent contract (CDI)
