Process Engineer

The Process Engineer is responsible for designing and sizing equipment and lines for Oil & Gas treatment process & utilities for Production Facilities. This person needs to understand plant operations, supply and product logistics. Must also demonstrate the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams producing reports, studies and presentations related to process. He/She keeps abreast of industry codes, standards, regulations and guidelines.

Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Defines the process to optimize product delivery throughout the facility, considering inputs from clients, products specifications, and cost of solution
  • Size and define process equipment and utilities for O&G facilities during proposal and project execution
  • Understand customer inquiries and specifications to be able to perform heat and material balances and size process equipment
  • Design equipment to match specifications or clearly define differences (clarifications or exceptions list) to customer.
  • Prepare process engineering documents to be included in technical proposals: equipment performance, equipment datasheet, heat and material balances.
  • Develop of all process engineering documents including Heat and Material Balance, PFDs, P&ID’s, process datasheets, PSV calculations, line list, etc. Ensure consistency among all different documents.
  • Perform process simulations utilizing Company’s defined software, Hysys, Aspen or Symmetry.
  • Create / review / comment on PFDs and P&IDs and perform P&ID walk-downs on fabricated equipment.
  • Specify equipment items such as heat exchangers, vessels, separators, desalters, heaters, tanks, compressors, filters, pumps. Develop equipment data sheets and estimate equipment weights.
  • Size and define all process systems and utilities to support on cost estimation during proposals and finalize detail sizing and specification during project execution. Define material selection for piping and equipment
  • Perform equipment process design.
  • Perform line sizing calculations and pressure drop calculations.
  • Provide process information to other disciplines for them to develop their documents: instrumentation, electrical, civil, piping, structural, control, safety.
  • Provide process information from to instrumentation engineers and validate control valves and flow meter selection by Instrumentation Eng.
  • Produce Installation, operating (Start-up and Shut-down) and maintenance Instruction manuals, including lists for Consumables, Special Tools, Lubricants, and Utilities.
  • Participate in providing technical support for troubleshooting pre-commissioning, commissioning, start up and operations.
  • Performs flare networks and blowdown calculations, as well as other utilities system like Instrument Air, Diesel, Drain system, Utility water, Steam generation sizing.
  • Participate in developing process engineering tools and standards for the Product Line.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, with 6-8+ years’ experience in facilities process engineering in the Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Knowledge of national and international codes and standards for oil field process equipment design, such as NFPA, ASME, NEMA, API. 
  • Experienced in process equipment design and sizing.
  • Competent in using of simulation software such as Hysys or Symmetry.
  • Knowledge in PID (piping and instrumentation diagrams).
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship. 
  • Preferred skills:
    • Knowledge of materials of construction and their application
    • Ability to work in teams, either with other process engineers or other discipline engineers. 
    • Competent in using FlareNet or Flaresim.
    • Having participated in HAZOP or other safety studies.
