Electrical Engineering Intern – Automated control and acquisition system for ultrasonic scanning measurements (6 months)

The internship is centered on a laboratory setup with an automatic control and data acquisition system for the purpose of ultrasonic scanning measurements.
The objective is to create a computer-controlled system to manipulate ultrasonic sensors in three-dimensional (3D) space (xyz-stage) in front of various underwater targets in a small tank and to design and build an associated acquisition system with sensor firing, waveform acquisition and data processing.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
The intern uses the available components of 3D stage, ultrasonic pulser box, acquisition system (PC oscilloscope), water tank, piezo-electric transducers and laptop to create the computer-controlled measurement control and acquisition system.
The following responsibilities are planned
• Hands-on assembly in the laboratory of the setup components
• Programming the measurement control and acquisition system
• Testing of the system in the water tank with piezo-electric transducers
• Data analysis of ultrasonic pulse-echo measurements by the laboratory experiments on sample targets.
Deliverables: Internal presentations of results, Reports on experiments and data analysis.
