Job Title: Technical Communications Specialist

Location: Sugar Land, TX. Hybrid

Description:

The Technical Communications Specialist is responsible for planning, developing, delivering, and maintaining information products to support product and service deployment, service delivery, service quality, and product maintenance throughout the product and service lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality information products, including documentation, training, multimedia, and technical illustrations.
  • Present complex information to the target audience in a concise, accurate, and usable form.
  • Develop requirements, estimates, and project plans for information product development.
  • Organize and manage workflows with subject matter experts and team.
  • Process change requests for information products.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of technical communications business processes, competencies, tools, standards, and best practices.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve personal professional competencies, specialized knowledge and skills in technical communications and relevant technical domains.
  • Provide training and mentoring for technical communications specialists.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in technical communications, computer science, engineering, English, journalism, education, or training; Graduate degree or certifications a plus
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Proficient communication and presentation skills in US English
  • Must be able to write and edit succinctly and clearly
  • In-depth knowledge of technical communication development tools
  • Information gathering (interviewing SMEs, software trials, specifications documents, demos, source content, research, extrapolating)
  • Information usability and architecture (knowledge of human interface, information architecture, needs analysis, audience characteristics)
  • Graphics capture and basic editing
  • Experience in software development, hardware development, and energy industry experience is a plus
  • Experience with the following methodology:
    • Modular (single-source) authoring for reuse
    • Information architecture and Minimalism
    • Developing Quality Technical Information (DQTI) by IBM
    • OASIS Darwin Information Type Architecture (DITA)
    • DTD & CSS
  • Experience with the following tools:
    • SGML or XML editor (Epic or XMetaL); TIME system a plus
    • HTML
    • Content management system
    • Microsoft (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Communicator)
    • Adobe RoboHelp or MadCap Flare
    • TechSmith SnagIt
    • Adobe: Acrobat Professional, Captivate, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Air (intermediate level)
  • Candidate must be able to reside and work in the US without sponsorship
