The Physicist is responsible for providing engineering solutions for the development or improvement of techniques, procedures and products using analysis and experiments based on principles of physics and mathematical modeling. In the FE WL sustaining role, this takes the form of assisting with troubleshooting by analyzing NMR measurements, providing input to electrical and mechanical design based on physical principles, and working on data science projects based on the physics of operation and failure of wireline equipment. The Physicist assists in planning, conducting and evaluating approaches to meet project objectives in a timely fashion.

Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Help develop products and assist in their commercialization.
  • Provide engineering solutions based on principles of physics and mathematical models.
  • Build prototypes, products and systems suitable for testing. Design testing procedures and coordinate tests, document results and assist in client presentations. Provide timely corrective actions on defects.
  • Conduct technical reviews of project requirements, specifications and risk analysis.
  • Contribute to design standards.
  • Create and maintain product documentation.
  • Make presentations to technical and management audiences.
  • Author technical reports, papers, articles and patents.
  • Share expertise via Eureka and special interest groups. Build informal network throughout the organization and with customers.
  • Assign, direct and review the work of technicians and junior engineers. Mentor junior team members as required.
  • Provide training and support to customers and field representatives.
  • Maintain familiarity with company technology, organization and business. Keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets. Learn new skills and practices as required to develop products that maintain Schlumberger's technical leadership.
  • Participate in recruiting activities.
  • Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements as defined in the risk control matrix.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, physics, earth sciences, or related fields preferably with thesis work related to experimental NMR for earth subsurface exploration; Master’s degree will be considered
  • Solid programming/software skills and practice of machine learning are preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and communication skills
  • Enthusiasm and ability to work within a team of scientists and engineers
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship.
