Prototyping the digital platform for the future of the company, we have an opportunity to join Schlumberger Cambridge Research as a Research Scientist. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team in the Digital Research department which comprises the Data Lab, the Automation & Planning (A&P) programme and the Domain & Integrated Systems (D&IS) programme. This role requires confident technical skills in coding and problem-solving.
We create state-of-the-art solvers for AI Planning and Scheduling, supported by a semantic web ontology capturing the interactions that are key to delivering Schlumberger’s field services. We also leverage that ontology within other machine reasoning contexts such as Bayesian network advisor systems and in generating human-friendly explanations (explainable AI (XAI)) for the advice given. This is an extensive multi-year research effort, where we both develop in-house techniques and implement the best methods identified in the literature, with the long-term vision of a truly integrated digital infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will possess skills and understanding in at least one of our key research areas: Bayesian networks, explainable AI, temporal planning, knowledge graphs, optimization, or data fusion. You should expect to lead and take ownership of your area of expertise, informing engineering efforts in addition to your own research. You will have the opportunity to co-supervise Schlumberger-sponsored PhDs, publish your work externally and engage with our partner universities in addition to guiding the adoption of your work globally through Schlumberger’s engineering centers and field operations.
