Job Summary

The position Information Management and Data Engineer is responsible for the back-office support and/or proactive support and implementation of Information Management software products, services and solutions within the Petro-Technical workflows. Moreover, the engineer will support, provide business insight and design potential optimized data solution services with a strong background in Data Engineering and Relational Database Management System, especially SQL. The Engineers will provide high quality on-site support and project implementation services to clients of Schlumberger, resolving complex software issues and sharing relevant software information with clients in order to pre-empt potential issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with key stakeholders and take ownership of deliverables.
  • Understand business problems and propose technical solutions
  • Automate solutions and improve overall productivity and resource availability
  • Provide extended on-site support at client offices, always maintaining a professional image
  • Investigates, analyzes, resolves and prepares reports on moderate to complex client tickets via telephone, email or on-site visits
  • Architect, implement and deploy data solutions and pipelines
  • Implement best practice patterns.
  • Installs, upgrades and assists in the integration of applications and supporting technologies
  • Proactively visits clients to discuss software related issues, including defects, workarounds and emergency fixes, providing information detailing the history, resolution, and status
  • Provides health check services at client installations to pre-empt problems
  • Effectively uses designated client tracking system to log client visits and to report software issues
  • Understands and utilizes the correct problem escalation procedures
  • Monitors service quality and pre-emptively informs supervisors when potential issues arise
  • Writes and implements command line and database related scripts to perform data definition and manipulation updates, additions or deletions
  • Customizes forms and reports as per client specifications using Java or Python programming
  • Assists in the collection, maintenance, analysis, presentation, delivery and archiving of data, (Schlumberger, legacy or third-party systems) based on project requirements
  • Provides demonstrations as required, including relevant data model characteristics
  • May perform data loading and updating activities using SIS IM and G&G software applications, as well as third party applications, where applicable
  • Adheres to all standards of confidentiality and security
  • Recognizes other revenue generating opportunities for sales and training. Suggests additional services to client and follows up on leads with manager and/or sales representative
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art computer technology, equipment, and systems; participates in professional development activities as appropriate

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in either geosciences or IT related discipline
  • Minimum 3 to 4 years’ experience in development of tools around any DBMS.
  • Strong background in Data Engineering, Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and SQL
  • Basic understanding of ER diagram.
  • Basic understanding of MSBI technologies – (PowerBI, SSAS, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of SQL and Python.
  • Familiar with workflow optimization techniques to improve ETL processing
  • Great at solving problems; debugging; troubleshooting; and designing & implementing solutions to complex technical issues
  • Aptitude to independently learn new technologies, prototype and propose solutions
  • Very strong computer literacy with aptitude and readiness for multidiscipline training
  • Adaptable and willing to learn new technologies; keeps abreast of key developments in relevant technologies
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Excellent oral, written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Effectively analyzes and solves problems with attention to the root cause
  • Willing to work in Kuala Lumpur.
  • Proficient in English and Malay language.

Additional preferred skills:

  • Hand on experience in Fact - Dimensional Data Modelling using Star and Snowflake Schema.
  • Experience in developing ETL workflows.
  • Experience in MSBI technologies – (PowerBI, SSAS, etc.)
  • Hands on expertise in Visual Studio - SSDT (SQL Server Data Tools).
  • Knowledge of Oilfield terminology and business practices
  • Scripting hands on experience in C# / C++
  • Understanding of big data platforms such as Hadoop, Google cloud etc.
  • Understanding of cloud solutions such as Azure, AWS etc.
  • Experience in branching, tagging and maintaining the version across the environments using SCM tools like GIT
