RTDS Engineer (Systems Engineer)

Job Summary:

 

RTDS Engineers are responsible for the back-office support and/or proactive support and implementation of infrastructure and/or services to enable SIS software products, services and solutions within the PetroTechnical workflows.

RTDS Engineers will provide high quality support and project implementation services to clients of Schlumberger, resolving i issues and sharing relevant information with clients in order to pre-empt potential issues. At times the same support may also be provided internally to Schlumberger.

Reports to: Technical Team Leader, Services Manager or other Operations Line Management

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  • Coordinate the development of the RTDS services and engineering to promote RTDS service quality
  • Understand RTDS technology and participate in design and support process.
  • Understand and execute RTDS installation and configuration processes. Document installations and configurations including issue tracking and resolution
  • May provide extended on-site support at client offices, maintaining a professional image at all times
  • Investigates, analyzes, resolves and prepares reports on moderate to complex client tickets via telephone, email or on-site visits
  • Deploys hardware infrastructures (e.g., servers and storage devices), operating systems, databases and SIS software
  • Creates detailed documentation, accessible by the team, for system configuration
  • Assist with mobilization and demobilization of rig site hardware and network on each rig move
  • Learn Data formats, units, meanings and normal value ranges to identify data issues proactively
  • Tailoring the data representation and visualization templates to suite situations
  • Provide detailed reporting on hardware component and system failures, including statistics and analysis
  • Maintain data flow: configure automated data loading and QC procedures for drilling sensors data and daily drilling reports, monitor data loading process, reporting QC issues to users
  • Conducts site surveys to understand customer requirements, documents physical and environmental constraints, specifications, diagrams, and charts to support infrastructure design and selection
  • Collaborates with network and security staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of application software and systems
  • Ensures databases (including supporting systems and software) are correctly installed and supported (when applicable). Also, that backup, recovery and security procedures are in place and followed
  • Ensures database technologies are kept up-to-date as defined by (client) business needs
  • Installs, upgrades and assists in the integration of SIS applications & supporting technologies
  • Maintains accurate status records for on-going projects and assists in forecasting, auditing, planning and invoicing
  • Assists in the development of systems integration or customized application or configuration projects (e.g. scripting)
  • Develops, implements and documents best practice policies and procedures for new projects or initiatives
  • Proactively visits clients to discuss infrastructure related issues, including defects, workarounds & emergency fixes, providing information detailing history, resolution & status
  • Develops client visit schedules with Account Managers, prioritizing by revenue impact and marketing events
  • Provides health check services at client installations to pre-empt problems Effectively uses designated client tracking system to log client visits
  • Effectively uses the InTouchSupport.com system, ensuring that best practices and lessons learned are made available to wider technical community
  • Effectively uses designated defect tracking system to report software issues
  • Understands and utilizes the correct problem escalation procedures
  • Monitors service quality and pre-emptively informs supervisors when potential issues arise
  • Assists in the collection, maintenance, analysis, presentation, delivery and archiving of data, (Schlumberger, legacy or third-party systems) based on project requirements
  • Assists certified trainers in technical instruction to the client, as required
  • Adheres to all standards of confidentiality and security
  • Recognizes other revenue generating opportunities for sales and training. Suggests additional services to client and follows up on leads with manager and/or sales representative
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art computer technology, equipment, and systems; participates in professional development activities as appropriate

 

  • Responsible for project equipment budget planning, equipment ordering and maintenance

Previous Experience and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related discipline (computer, software, drilling, petroleum, E&E etc.)
  • Very strong computer literacy with aptitude and readiness for multidiscipline training
  • 0-3 years seniority
  • Candidates equipped with basic networking skills, Linux, basic programming (python, SQL) can be the plus points.
