Scope of the internship:

 

3D image post-processing for failure analysis and data generation for modelling & simulation

 

Schlumberger is developing and providing advanced technologies for safety and downhole oil & gas applications. It enables for customers (mainly oilfield companies) reliable and high performances equipment and measurements to characterize monitor and optimize their reservoir production.  Indeed a main trend in industry, including oil & gas and new energies, is to build digital models from datasets generation, in order to improve electronic sub assembly reliability. Accessing measurable indicators from post-processed models obtained from real samples and analysed using third party software would to improve confidence in built product without destructive analysis. 

 

The main objectives will be:

  • To improve data acquisition and datasets from the CT-scan, decreasing the noise over signal ratio on 3D datasets by performing data merging from different scans and by creating new sample’s fixation systems
  • To extract quantitative information from previous coils and transformer models, such as weight estimation, turn ratio calculation and windings axis coordinates
  • To evaluate and improve methods for the evaluation of intermetallic thickness in solder joints
  • To generate new datasets from real component’s CT-scans reconstructions in Avizo to deformable 3D solid model, compatible with modelling & simulation software (ANSYS/ABAQUS)
  • To extract voids area and barycenter from previous 3D models to be used on FEA models

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

The intern will be in charge of manipulating the state of the art X-ray equipment, including 3D stage. During this phase, she/he will improve 3D X-ray methodology, sample holder and post-processing of raw data to lower noise ratio while sampling part.  From this point the intern will export data and models to post process 2D/3D dataset using Avizo/VG studio.

 

Skills required:

 

A further data post-processing in other 3rd party software might be necessary in order to generate datasets that can be directly used and modified by the modelling & simulation team.

Some knowledge in software science and image processing is necessary in order to masteries the programming of user interface using Python and to understand the available modules.

Some knowledge in electronics is necessary to understand the analysis and modelling objectives.

A good level of English and French communication

Studying towards a Masters in Electrical Engineering or related field.
