Assistant Tax Manager – Malaysia. Based in Kuala Lumpur

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and file fiscal accounts, tax returns and tax payments in compliance with Malaysia regulations. Closely work with Statutory Auditors and Hub Fiscal Team to finalise the fiscal books.
  • Manage tax compliance, tax assessments and queries by the tax authorities (both for direct and indirect taxes). Provide liaison for and monitor local tax audits. Establish and maintain good working relations with relevant government /tax authorities.
  • Manage transfer pricing issues, working closely with the Global Transfer Pricing team and finance operations on transfer pricing advisory and documentation matters.
  • Function as a focal point for tax reporting matters, managing the interface with finance operations and closely monitoring and improving tax reporting processes in line with legislation and group requirements.
  • Responsible for creating monthly/quarterly tax provision, Fin 48 reporting and updating tax provisioning guidelines
  • Audit internal compliance with tax regulations    
  • Provide concise, accurate and timely end to end direct and indirect tax advice on projects in Malaysia, with a specific focus on businesses housed within Schlumberger group of Companies.
  • Review employee related withholdings and tax related issues with focus on Expat personal taxes
  • Interact with Global and Regional teams in providing advice on cross-border issues and projects.
  • Support operations in the bidding process, including setting up new operations, and in reviewing customer bids and contracts.
  • Review of 3rd party vendor contracts terms & conditions relating to taxes
  • Assist Geounit Tax Manager on overall tax reporting requirement for East Asia Geounit


Qualifications and Requirements

  • Broad experience (6+ years) in business taxation working for multinational, or a professional firm.
  • Good tax accounting knowledge and experience.
  • Recognised professional qualification and member of a recognised accounting or legal professional body is preferred.
  • Effective communicator of complex tax issues; both written and oral.
  • Ability to adapt to new or changing circumstances and ambiguous or pressured situations.
  • Demonstrates creativity in the evaluation of issues and development of possible solutions.
  • Ability to evaluate tax risks, balance risk with commercial objectives, and make objective, practical, and technically appropriate recommendations.
  • Effective team player.
