Chemist/Chemical Engineer

Location: 5950 North Course Dr, Houston, TX

Responsibilities:

  • The Chemical Engineer/Chemist is responsible for developing innovative and cost-effective solutions requiring the development or sustaining of new or improved techniques, procedures, or products.
  • Plan, conduct, and evaluate approaches to meeting project objectives in a timely fashion. Provide timely corrective actions on defects.
  • Assist in identifying and organizing requirements and developing relevant product specifications. Create and maintain product documentation. Provide user training as required. In collaboration with internal stakeholders develop product bulletins.
  • Analyze, design, develop and maintain products and assist in their commercialization.
  • Explain complicated chemistry issues to co-workers having no background in chemistry.
  • Complete lab work and transfer new technology to the field.
  • Working knowledge of design of experiments.
  • Design and develop products that exhibit sustainability improvements (lower carbon footprint, lower toxicity).
  • Design, implement, and execute laboratory tests, document results and develop internal and external customer presentations.
  • Conduct or participate in technical reviews of requirements, results and specifications.
  • Assign, direct and review work of technicians and provide guidance to engineers.
  • Author technical reports, papers, articles, patents and presentations. Share expertise via internal knowledge sharing platforms. Expand informal network throughout the organization.
  • Keep abreast of novel technical concepts and markets. Adopt new practices readily to develop innovative, sustainable and low-cost products.
  • Maintain familiarity with company technology, organization and business.
  • Comply with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements as defined in the risk control matrix.

Requirements:

  • MS or PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical engineering or similar. 2 years industrial experience after graduation.
  • BSc degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, plus additional 3-5 years of work experience in chemicals manufacturing or corporate chemicals environment.

Preferred skills:

  • Preferred experience in chemical process development and process troubleshooting.
  • NMR interpretation, HPLC method development, experience with automated lab reactors (can be academic experience).
  • Drilling fluids experience.
  • Experience with polymer characterization (can be academic experience).
  • Experience in solving problems with complex chemical processes involving multiple stakeholders.
