Job title:

Modeling and simulation of ultrasonic control methods in oil & gas wells

Location:

Clamart, France

Scope of the internship:

The intern will be integrated in a multi-disciplinary team that develops measurement-equipment to detect defects in the barrier between oil-wells and the surrounding rock, preventing potential catastrophic events. SRPC designs and manufactures ultrasonic tool to control the integrity of boreholes and cased wells. In the last years a significant effort has been made to introduce new techniques in such controls. The internship will focus on the modeling and simulation of the ultrasonic sensor and its response in a range of different scenarios. CIVA software (developed by CEA tech) will primarily be used to setup the models and to run the simulations. The result of the simulations will be compared to experimental measurements available from our laboratory setups and from actual operational data.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn the use of the CIVA software (https://list.cea.fr/en/page/civa-simulation-and-analysis-software-for-non-destructive-testing-ndt/),
  • Build models for different scenarios inside the software, run simulations,
  • Benchmarking and evaluation of the simulation results,
  • Comparison of simulation results to experimental/operational data,
  • Evaluation and comparison of results will include using/developing signal processing in Matlab/Python,
  • Assist in meetings with CEA tech.

 

Skills required:

Acoustics/Physics - Wave propagation theory in fluids and solids

Modeling and Simulation  - Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis, first experience with commercial Software

Signal Processing - Fundamental knowledge of vibration and acoustic data analysis in the time and frequency domain

Programing - Experience in MATLAB or/and Python

Master degreed in Physics
