Job Summary:

The Mechanical engineer is a key role in the RP technology portfolio management. He/She provides technical support on downhole tools, sensors and surface equipment that are used in subsurface data acquisition for SLB customers. These equipments are operated remotely (from the surface) in  deep wells and are often subjected to hostile conditions (high temperature, high pressure, shocks, corrosive fluids etc… ) that can also be encountered at surface ( example: offroad transportation in deserts, storage in tropical humid environments, storage in arctic climates etc…).

The TLM function is responsible for the lifecycle of SLB equipment once it is commercialized, until it is retired, and owns the responsibility of the technology.

The TLM Mechanical Sustaining Engineer is responsible for:

  • Planning, execution, deployment and monitoring of the assigned projects related to reliability, reduction of cost of service delivery, availability improvement, and asset customization
  • Conducting failure investigations and root cause analysis
  • Providing technical support to field operations as well as Product Center Manufacturing and supply chain.

The mechanical engineer must interface with reliability and Service Quality Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Supply chain, Technical Support Helpdesk, Field Maintenance crews, Suppliers, project stakeholders, and work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team under the supervision of the Portfolio owner

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Failure investigation and root cause analysis

  • Failure investigation (Business systems data, design file review, simulations, etc)
  • Failed part / product return lab analysis
  • Solutions concepts, tradeoff, cost and risk evaluation, requirement definition
  • Solution prototyping and validation and verification testing
  • Solution deployment in operations and production

 

Field and Manufacturing support

  • Learn and support the portfolio of downhole assets from SRPC
    • Provide technical support to tickets from operations (Support field helpdesk)
    • Provide technical support to manufacturing / production
    • Provide technical support for resourcing
  • Product files
    • Develop and improve standard work instructions and maintenance procedures
    • Design modifications
    • Revise product files for obsolescence, changes, updated, supplier or manufacturing requests

 

Projects assignment

  • Plan, execute, deploy and monitor deployment of assigned projects related to reliability improvement, cost reduction and product availability, from concept to completion including field deployment, and following the SLB lifecycle project management system
    • As part of the assignment he / she must be able to define requirements, prepare work structure, schedule, risk analysis, cost analysis and be able to present to management during checkpoints or milestones.
  • Contribute on the reliability, Cost reduction, and availability analysis and continuous improvement analysis and planning.
  • Participate in technical reviews of other people’s work and contribute to the Mechanical Engineers community.
  • Redesign and / or develop modifications.
  • Define product maintenance or repair.
  • Put new processes in place.
  • Maintain and improve manufacturing technical files.
  • Interface with SRPC multidisciplinary teams (Manufacturing, customer service, supply chain etc) as well as worldwide operations teams (Field engineers, reliability engineers, maintenance team) and TLM team (mechanical and electrical engineers, technicians and service quality Engineer)

 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Mechanical engineering degree (Master equivalent) or equivalent combination of higher degree and experience.

Technical skills:

  • Knowledge of mechanical design and manufacturing processes, including:
    • CAD (Creo,/ pro- Engineers with windchill)
    • Simulation (eg analysis)
    • Knowledge in materials and specialty alloys for high temperature, high pressure, corrosive environments
    • Mechanical design, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, material strength and structural calculation
  • Previous experience in HPHT design or oilfield industries is a plus

Soft skills :

  • Curious, Quick learner and adaptable to a big variety of topics / products / business systems
