Stonehouse, Gloucestershire, UK.

Stonehouse Technology Centre (SHTC) is the SLB drilling Centre of Excellence. It supports SLB through innovative engineering and quality-driven manufacturing, with portfolio emphasis on rotary steerable systems, Measurement While Drilling tools, Specialised Measurement tools and Rechargeable Batteries for Downhole use, and power source products.

Over 300 employees work in SHTC's modern, fit-for-purpose building in scenic Gloucestershire. The facility was constructed to handle future demand for PowerDrive tools with an efficient workflow that ensures assembled tools are extensively and rigorously tested before delivery. On site, tools can be monitored using state of-the-art hardware and connectivity that link SHTC to all field locations.

SHTC continues Research & Development investment for new technologies, extending operational limits so that clients can reach hotter, deeper reserves.

 

Job Summary: 

Are you a CAD Designer looking for a new position within an industry leading Engineering company offering structured career progression, training and development plans? This is a unique and exciting position within a large, global organisation where you will work within the R&D/NPD areas of the business producing CAD designs for brand new industry leading technology. 

Within a multi-disciplinary team, you will collaborate with experts to create and assess new designs and contribute to the development of new concepts as well as sustaining the designs of existing products. You will be given full training to get up to speed on the industry and company products. 

 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Prepare original designs of varying complexity using the approved 3D CAD system.
  • Understand assembly techniques and how they impact on the design and development of products.
  • Preparation of part and assembly drawings in accordance with relevant standards employing suitable tolerance and geometric control as required.
  • Preparation of BOM.
  • Work in accordance Schlumberger standards and procedures including drafting, material/coating selection, management of revisions etc
  • Understand manufacturing processes and techniques and how they impact on the cost/lead time of a part.
  • Prepare tolerance stack-up calculations.

 

Skills and Experience:

  • Preparation of precision detailed designs and drawings in same or similar industries (downhole tools, aerospace, automotive etc).
  • Extensive working experience on 3D parametric CAD package(s) (ideally PTC Creo but other systems such as SolidWorks, Catia, Inventor, NX etc would be acceptable).
  • Product File Management systems (Windchill or other PDM system).

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: HNC in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Ideally, qualification(s) would be complemented with practical manufacturing experience.
  • Recognised “time served” apprenticeship in mechanical engineering company or good experience in a Mechanical Designer role.
