Description & Scope:
There is a well-known, yet unresolved problem of mismatch between simulation prediction and actual results on injectivity of polymers for enhanced oil recovery.
Often the blame is on development of micro-fractures and then hydraulic fractures at high pressures near wells due to the viscous flow of polymers. The reservoir simulator Intersect cannot model development of microfractures and fractures by itself.
However, in coupling with geomechanics simulator Visage, and Embedded Discrete Fracture Model (EDFM) tool, it would be possible to include these geological processes into simulation, and, hence, explain the observed mismatch between modeling and field data.
