The Driller is responsible for operations of the drill floor including draw works, mud circulating system, rotary system and blowout preventer (BOP) equipment.
Responsibilities
Participate in pre-tour and toolbox meetings with the drilling crew.
Communicate and comply with safe working practices on the drill floor. Keep drill floor and tools clean and organized. Maintain equipment in good and safe working order and report deviations.
Demonstrate knowledge of well control procedures and BOP equipment and procedures. Assist with equipment tests.
Perform preventative and planned maintenance on drilling equipment. Assist with repairs.
Oversee maintenance of the derrick and associated equipment.
Oversee operation and service of drilling fluid system equipment.
Maintain equipment files, drilling logs and records.
Direct and assist as needed in drilling operations. Perform technical calculations required to carry out drilling operations.
Interpret and respond to down hole conditions. Recognize basic warning signs of kick and act accordingly as a first barrier of well control.
Locate information and data required to conduct operations.
Read and interpret gauges, meters and instruments.
Plan work for the drill crew.
Advise supervisor of current or changing conditions.
Advise supervisor of requests and instructions from the operator.
Coordinate operations activities with other departments.
Train and evaluate the drilling crew. Set yearly objectives and follow up in quarterly reviews.
