The Manufacturing Engineering Technologist is a hands‑on technical expert responsible for supporting day‑to‑day manufacturing operations. This role focuses on troubleshooting shop‑floor issues, developing training plans, updating work instructions and layouts, and supporting the implementation and sustainment of new technologies—including automation systems and preventive maintenance programs.

The ideal candidate brings strong practical experience, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to communicate effectively with technicians, engineers, and leadership. This position plays a key role in standardizing processes, improving product flow, and ensuring new technology deployments are successful and well‑integrated into operations.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, process, and documentation issues on the shop floor during daily operations.
  • Create, update, and maintain work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), visual aids, and training materials.
  • Develop structured training plans for operators and technicians on new or existing processes and technologies.
  • Support layout updates, including material flow improvements, workstation design, and optimization of floor space.
  • Assist in the implementation of automation, advanced manufacturing technologies, and digital tools.
  • Support creation and execution of preventive maintenance plans for new automation or equipment deployments.
  • Participate in technology trials, equipment runoffs, and commissioning activities.
  • Collaborate with engineers, production supervisors, and maintenance teams to standardize processes and improve manufacturing stability.
  • Support continuous improvement via rootcause analysis, corrective actions, and incremental process improvements.
  • Collect and organize shopfloor data to support process capability, cycle time, and throughput improvements.
  • Ensure documentation and process changes are communicated and fully adopted by production teams.
  • Assist with costreduction, quality improvement, and productivity initiatives.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Associate degree in a technical field OR completion of an accredited trade school program OR equivalent handson manufacturing experience (typically 5+ years).
  • Practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or automation systems used in manufacturing.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability in a production environment.
  • Experience creating or modifying manufacturing documentation (SOPs, WIs, job aids).
  • Strong problemsolving skills and comfort working on the shop floor.
  • Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with CAD tools for layout updates (AutoCAD preferred).
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (SAP experience a plus).
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and digital documentation tools.
  • Exposure to Lean manufacturing concepts (5S, standard work, waste reduction).
  • Experience supporting automation projects, PLCdriven equipment, or machine integration.
  • Aptitude for training and coaching operators and technicians.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across functions.
