Mission

The Data Scientist will develop and deploy data science solutions that address real-world geoscientific, reservoir engineering, and production analysis challenges. You'll work at the intersection of domain expertise and advanced analytics, collaborating closely with geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists, and petroleum engineers to translate complex subsurface problems into robust, actionable models and workflows.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy data science solutions to support geoscientific, reservoir engineering, and production analysis challenges.
  • Design and maintain predictive models, exploratory analysis dashboards, and interactive workflows using SLB tools.
  • Collaborate closely with geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists, and reservoir/production engineers to translate domain problems into robust data science solutions.
  • Deliver training sessions and technical workshops, both internally and for clients, focused on data science tools and upstream workflows.
  • Provide technical support and expertise on SLB platforms and software integrations.
  • Assist with data quality, data preparation, and data governance efforts, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Support business development and pre-sales activities, contributing to solution design and technical proposals.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geophysics, Geology, or related Geoscience/Engineering fields.
  • Strong foundation in Statistics and Mathematics.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably supporting data-driven workflows or digital transformation projects.
  • Solid experience with Python.
  • Practical knowledge of key libraries and frameworks: Pandas, NumPy (data handling), Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch (machine learning), and Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, or Dash (visualization).
  • Experience with time series forecasting for production and performance data.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
  • Strong analytical thinking, clear communication skills, and ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Advanced English, Fluent Portuguese
  • Proved residence in Brazil

 

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience with NLP, Deep Learning, Neural Networks, Transformers, or Generative AI.
  • Familiarity with Petrel, Techlog, Pipesim, Olga or similar SLB E&P domain tools.
  • Knowledge of industry data standards such as OSDU, PPDM, and Energistics.
