This position will serve as legal counsel for SLB’s business functions across the region of US and Canada.
This role is responsible for delivering proactive and reactive legal guidance, managing legal risk, and ensuring compliance with local and international regulations.
The position requires a practical combination of legal expertise with business acumen in a dynamic international environment.
The regional legal counsel is a key member of the regional team with a strong understanding of regional laws, regulations, and cultural considerations and serves as the point of contact for all legal matters.
Responsibilities:
Operational Support:
- Address day-to-day legal needs including employment/labor law, corporate governance, and operational compliance.
- Collaborate with other functions to ensure compliance with local and international laws.
Business Continuity and Growth Support:
- Identify and support local growth opportunities and new business models.
Dispute Resolution & Litigation Management:
- Manage disputes, litigation, and regulatory inquiries.
- Coordinate with outside counsel and internal stakeholders to mitigate risk.
Compliance & Ethics:
- Implement and champion SLB’s Ethics & Compliance program, including anti-corruption, trade controls, and data privacy.
- Conduct compliance investigations related to allegations of wrongdoing.
Corporate & Regulatory:
- Provide legal support on matters related to corporate governance and structure, entities and records related to local legal entities, M&A activity, government interaction, and legal regulatory filings within the region.
Outside Counsel Management:
- Oversee the quality and cost-effectiveness of outside counsel legal services.
Contracting & Commercial Support:
- Support customer, vendor, and other key commercial contract negotiations and reviews.
Qualifications
- JD from ABA Accredited Law School and admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, in good standing
- 2–7 years of relevant legal experience (law firm and/or in-house)
- Strong practical problem solving and business-oriented judgment
- Ability to manage multiple matters independently in a fast-paced environment
- Litigation background a plus
