The Chemistry Laboratory Intern supports the regional laboratory team in conducting analytical testing, sample preparation, data management, and general laboratory operations. Working under the guidance of experienced Chemists and reporting to the Regional Lab Manager, this role provides hands-on exposure to oilfield production chemistry, laboratory instrumentation, quality systems, and field sampling activities.

The intern will assist with routine laboratory functions while gaining practical experience in analytical chemistry, laboratory safety, data analysis, and customer support activities. This position is ideal for a student or recent graduate seeking to develop technical laboratory skills in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Completion of introductory chemistry laboratory coursework.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety practices and chemical handling procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong interest in analytical chemistry, laboratory operations, and oilfield production chemistry.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and safety requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to learn new laboratory techniques, software platforms, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, climb stairs, and perform routine laboratory activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous academic, internship, or research laboratory experience.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with basic data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and scientific data management.
  • Interest in oil and gas operations, industrial chemistry, environmental testing, or production chemistry.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist Chemists with routine and non-routine analytical testing activities.
  • Prepare samples, standards, reagents, and laboratory materials according to established procedures.
  • Support the receipt, labeling, logging, and tracking of laboratory samples.
  • Perform routine laboratory housekeeping and maintain clean, organized work areas.
  • Assist with operating laboratory instrumentation under supervision.
  • Help collect, organize, and enter analytical data into laboratory databases and reporting systems.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control activities by following laboratory procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Assist with laboratory inventory management, chemical stocking, and supply organization.
  • Participate in field sampling activities as needed and under appropriate supervision.
  • Observe and support instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Assist the laboratory team with process improvement initiatives and special projects.
  • Follow all company safety policies, laboratory procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support administrative tasks, documentation, and recordkeeping activities as assigned.
  • Participate in training opportunities to develop technical, analytical, and professional skills.
