Diversity and Inclusion Workshop: Our Journey to a Sustainable Inclusive Culture

In January, women from Schlumberger supported the IPTC Diversity and Inclusion Workshop in Dharan, Saudi Arabia. The workshop aimed to facilitate best practices to increase diversity, promote inclusion, and to instigate the concept of belonging.

The workshop brought together different presentations focused on aspects of Diversity and Inclusion, from looking at the business imperative on inclusion, creating and sustaining an inclusive culture that focuses more on inclusion in the workplace, and examining what measures organizations are fostering in their environment.

Our Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Recruiting and Learning, Leila Hamza, led an inspiring session on Inclusive Leadership Challenges and Opportunities.

“I feel privileged to have been part of this event where Diversity and Inclusion were at the heart of the conversation.” She said, “I was inspired by the women and men from the Industry who shared their personal stories.”

In this session, industry leaders also shared insights on their inclusive leadership, challenges they have faced, and opportunities that have unfolded due to their commitment to embracing the behaviours of inclusion.

Rawan, who recently joined Schlumberger as a Maintenance and Reliability Engineer, and Sarah, a Sales Engineer for us both presented in the third session “Chief Diversity Officer for the Day”, This session underlined that diversity is the fuel to innovation and the catalyst to changing the status quo. The discussion also addressed the need to ensure support and encouragement for women based on their abilities, and the importance of accessing relevant resources and training.

Of their presentations, Leila commented, “They were fantastic. They stood out as two of the most inspiring speakers during the conference.” And of the work done in-Country she added, “At Schlumberger, we are committed to Diversity and Inclusion in all our locations around the world. It is uplifting to see the Leadership and HR teams in Saudi Arabia demonstrating this commitment by developing local and diverse teams. Despite the challenges, they are definitely on the right track.”

Finally, our Global Talent Planning Manager Heather King also contributed to the workshop with an engaging session on Creating and Sustaining an Inclusive Culture. Her input focused on improving diversity quotas in the workplace and implementing unconscious bias training and programs that have a focus on minorities.

Schlumberger’s commitment to this topic and involvement in this workshop demonstrates our belief in the value of bringing people from all different walks of life together to be part of the most multi-cultural group of experts in the industry.
