Veterans and Military Spouses Offered Career Boost

Schlumberger has partnered with Rice University’s Glasscock School to award scholarships to veterans and military spouses.

A dozen military spouses and veterans will receive scholarships to the Human Resource Management Certificate program at Rice University’s Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies. The scholarships are made possible through a partnership between the Glasscock School and Schlumberger.

In 36 hours of classroom instruction over the course of 12 weeks, the program will prepare students for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) certification exam, leading to Certified Professional or Senior Certified Professional designations. SHRM is the world’s largest society for Human Resources professionals.

Schlumberger’s Global Veteran Affairs division connected with the Glasscock School through Combined Arms, an organization of veteran service organizations. “This is one of several initiatives we’ve undertaken in Schlumberger to support and empower active and veteran military personnel and their spouses,” says Global Veteran Affairs Manager Nick Tran. “Often, the military lifestyle makes it extremely difficult for spouses to pursue their own careers. This program provides valuable career development and mentorship in preparation for the job market. A career in human resources provides an avenue into any industry.”

Applications for the spring sessions of the program will be accepted until April 9. Veterans and military spouses may apply at glasscock.rice.edu/schlumberger. Learn more about the Glasscock School, at https://glasscock.rice.edu.
