Scientific Innovations for a More Sustainable Future

Schlumberger research scientist recognized by the Solar Impulse Foundation’s World Alliance for Efficient Solutions for contributions to assess sustainable technology

Pursuing a quest for scientific innovation is a cornerstone at Schlumberger. For 90 years we have developed innovations that help the energy industry increase production and value from non-renewable resources more efficiently and with reduced environmental impact.

We are committed to being at the forefront of the shift toward cleaner and sustainable energy production—challenging not only ourselves, but also our customers, suppliers, and peers to partner on delivering measurable social and environmental progress.

As part of our commitment, Schlumberger is an active partner of the Solar Impulse Foundation’s World Alliance for Efficient Solutions. Partnering with the Foundation was a natural fit as by challenging conventional thinking and transforming how work is done—we push the boundaries of what’s possible. Schlumberger was founded by two pioneering brothers, Conrad and Marcel Schlumberger, and that passion for discovery has kept us at the forefront of the energy industry from day one.

The World Alliance for Efficient Solutions is working to select 1,000 technology solutions that protect the environment while maintaining profitability. When a solution’s technological feasibility, profitability, and environmental or socioeconomic benefit has been validated by volunteer subject matter experts from various disciplines, it receives an “Efficient Solutions Label.”

Among those subject matter experts is Dr. David Snoswell, a senior research scientist at Schlumberger, who holds a PHD in colloid science with post-doctorate work in chemistry and physics.

The Solar Impulse Foundation presents its annual Expert of the Year Award to highlight a best-performing expert who has gone above and beyond—the 2020 recognition goes to Dr. Snoswell.

A dedicated Solar Foundation expert, last year Dr. Snoswell completed 27 assessments, meaning that he’s helped to label over 60 clean and profitable solutions since he began volunteering in 2018.

“It is a great honor to receive this. I’ve always done as much as I can to promote the energy transition and the Solar Impulse Foundation’s work is completely aligned with my own interests,” says Dr. Snoswell, “I’d been looking for opportunities to expand my engagement with the energy transition so it was an easy decision to contribute.”

Schlumberger has a long history of helping customers reduce their environmental impact by offering technology with improved chemistry application, reducing emissions and natural resource consumption, and better managing waste.

“I’ve worked in several environments over my career and the people at Schlumberger are talented and friendly,” says Dr. Snoswell, “When you are part of an excellent team it feels like you can achieve anything, I am confident we can meet the changes the energy transition brings.”
