A shared vision, an industry first.

How Laurent, François, and Mauro turned a two-decade ambition into a technology the energy industry had never seen before.

Not many people get to say they experienced the thrill of developing a technology for two decades and see it reach the world. Laurent, François, and Mauro can.

What started as a vision shared across three very different backgrounds — engineering, product strategy, and field operations — was always clear in its purpose: develop a technology that could see deeper into the subsurface, giving real-time insight to help operators place wells more precisely.

The result is AlphaSight™, the next generation of geosteering and reservoir mapping that doesn't just see the rock around the drill bit, but maps what's ahead to enable proactive decisions. One of the most significant technology milestones in SLB's recent history.
The kind of work that doesn't happen in a straight line.

For Laurent, who led the engineering development, the pride isn't in just having created a unique technology, it's in the people who built it. A multidisciplinary team, bringing together mechanical, electrical, firmware, and physics domain experts.

"New product development is never a straight line. Setbacks and surprises are inevitable. What made AlphaSight possible was the team's ability to adapt quickly and learn from every setback."

François came to the project through a different lens. As Product Champion, he held several realities in tension: understanding the market, what customers actually need, and what engineering could realistically deliver. That meant making hard calls.

"There were a lot of additional features we could have scoped in AlphaSight, but it would have driven costs up and caused significant delays. I'm proud of how we managed to balance technical needs and economic viability.”

For Mauro, Domain Head for Geosteering and Reservoir Mapping, this project carried the weight of history. He saw the earlier generations of this technology push the boundary a little further with each iteration — and understood better than most what it meant to finally arrive at this one.

“AlphaSight is not a simple iteration, or the next logical generation, it’s the technical peak of such technology.”

What the three of them will tell you — and what anyone who's worked on a project like this understands — is that the technology and the people are inseparable. AlphaSight™ exists because a multidisciplinary team figured out how to communicate across domains, stay the course on what matters most, and let go of the rest.

Our teams don't come from a single mold. They come from different disciplines, different cultures, and different starting points, and they grow by exploring beyond them.

That's what working at SLB is like.
