A new adventure awaits

April decided to join us for a rewarding and diverse career after graduating from the University of Texas. She began her SLB career as a Field Engineer and since then has worked on global software deployments, technical, and quality positions worldwide. Now, as Operations Systems and IT Communications Lead, she has been able to use her vast career experience to communicate on diverse topics across the IT community. She also loves sharing the diverse opportunities available at SLB externally through her involvement in community outreach with one of our employee resource groups—BOLD (Black organization for leadership and diversity).

A typical day for April, involves creating presentations, communication campaigns, to support the culture and brand of SLB.  This working environment offers April the opportunity to work anywhere. “I like that flexibility. I am a morning person, so I don’t mind starting my day from home. Get my daughter ready for school, then head to the office,” she reveals. Over the years, she has had the opportunity to work with developers, working on projects that involve understanding the company vision and business processes from the past in order to improve future applications. April describes SLB’s culture as flexible, complex, and full of personality.

“I like that flexibility. I am a morning person, so I don’t mind starting my day from home. Get my daughter ready for school, then head to the office.”

To manage her work-life balance, April learned over the years to be honest about her ambitions. “Today I own a successful catering company in Houston, which I run in my spare time.”  Encouraged by colleagues, she took the leap and gave her passion a go. She also volunteers for SLB, using her passion for cooking and her background in STEM, she encourages high school and college students to realize that they can be an engineer and have a successful business. “You literally can have your 'cake and eat it too',” she jokes.

She hopes to continue doing more non-profit work for SLB, recruiting, and mentoring. April’s advice to anyone considering a career at SLB would be to “Ask the real questions, make sure whatever company you work for aligns with your values. Join an employee resource group to have additional support/network. Be your true self. I love my career with SLB."
