Surprising turns and rewarding challenges
Nobody’s more surprised than Arnis with the way her career has progressed.
Listening to Arnis describe her 19-year career journey thus far at Schlumberger, it’s easy to detect a mix of pride and outright surprise. “I never imagined that my career would lead me to where I am today, managing such an important organization within Schlumberger information technology.”
A Bachelor of Electronics Engineering graduate from Malaysia, Arnis moved from field engineering and field service management roles to assignments as sales engineer, recruiting manager and wellsite connectivity manager before taking her current role as manager of the Enterprise Management Center in Kuala Lumpur. The center handles hundreds of infrastructure IT tickets every day, and Arnis is responsible for day-to-day operations including decisions regarding critical issue escalation. “Given my background, starting in field operations, it never crossed my mind that I would be holding this significant IT position one day.”
Arnis may find her journey surprising in a way, but it reflects exactly the sort of borderless career opportunity she signed up for, complete with challenging responsibility, international assignments and a mix of stimulating and diverse colleagues.

Of all her positions, Arnis says her current role, in which she oversees a team of 61 people, has truly tested her ability to balance operations and people management. In addition to schedules and management reviews, she is responsible for the individual development and career progress of the team members. Arnis credits several great managers along the way for preparing her for each new challenge. “My managers helped me to see the bigger picture and to set the right priorities. I learned how to communicate better, how to make critical decisions, and manage conflicts.”
Arnis says her career has allowed her to discover her true potential. “If you are looking for a challenging career, Schlumberger is the company to go for. You will constantly be pushed to deliver.
